Eternal embrace? Couple still hugging 5,000 years on:For Valentines day - by Gillie

These are 5,000 year old bones for crying out loud. Any "respect for the dead" issues surely expired long before we even dug them up. The right place for these skeletons is a museum or a lab.

I'm not denying that a lot could be learned from the examination of the skeletal remains. What I was saying was that imo, after the scientists are finished with their tests/exams the remains should be laid to rest properly.
Dead is dead no matter how long the individuals have been deceased. They were once human beings and should be treated with a degree of respect in granting them a proper burial (again). Something about the fact that they were hugging (you know, as in personal and private) at the time of their death makes me feel that their remains shouldn't be put on display.

But they didn't die this way, they were intentionally buried in this fashion (and not necessarily at the same time), so it wasn't a very privat moment. It's completely different to those corpses from Pompei - I think it tells you much more about society at that time than about their relationship or feelings at the time of their death.
I do understand your concern about the treatment of the remains, but I have a much bigger problem with bog bodies and mummys to be displayed than skeletons - somewhere in between they lose their individuality for me.

Doggy darling, is this the first time I completely agree with you? A moment to remember!
LET'S HUG! :D

Ohhh there is love after all in this thread. Awwww. :D

I think we should feed the remains to an animal because there are a lot of starving animals out there and they like bones and things. So the next time we find some old bones lying around and no one knows whose they are then we should give them to elderly dogs because I bet after 5000 years them bones would be just about soft enough for an elderly dog to chaw on and hey, that'd be nice for the dog because I bet old dogs don't get to eat delicious bones much anymore even though we all know how much dogs like to eat bones, right guys?
Boy, they sure do like to eat bones!
BrokenArts on 14/2/2007 at 20:28
No bones about it. :P
They are bones, yes, it is rare to find them in such a position. Who knows what they were doing, if someone wants to get a boner from the excitement about it, who are we to judge. We aren't Archeologists, if they want to get all happy, so what? Bully for them.
Gingerbread Man on 14/2/2007 at 21:01
Yeah, but sometimes archaeologists "getting all happy" involves bullwhipping Egyptian thugs, stowing away on Nazi submarines, and digging up mummies. I'm not saying we should lock all the archaeologists up, mind you... I'm just saying we should keep a tighter rein on them because oh god mummies??? Fuck that shit! Fuck that shit all to HELL!
Tocky on 14/2/2007 at 21:30
Hey, mummies come in handy when you get lost in an old tomb and have to take a dump. Things happen 'sall I'm sayin'.
Gingerbread Man on 14/2/2007 at 21:33
You're fuckin' disturbed, man. We're talking about the UNDEAD here. That's just dangerous, not to mention unsanitary.
