ERROR: ClipAlloc. Scene complexity too high
This is the error message I get when trying to play the FM "Silent Nightmares." It's a very rainy mission, but I have a fairly decent computer and it should be able to handle it. This is the first time I've run into this error. Restarting Thief has no effect. Is there any way around this, maybe turning off the rain?
I appreciate any help you can offer.

There is far too much on screen for Thief to process. Try reducing the resolution you play at.
It might help a little.

If you're playing with a widescreen mod, it does increase scene complexity sometimes, AFAIK. Might be the reason for that.

No, I'm not using a widescreen. It's a very rainy mission, so there's probably just too much going on at once.
Is there a way to turn off the rain? Kinda dumb since the water effects are the point of the mission, but it's too much.

The newness of the system has nothing to do with it, unless it's an incompatible graphics driver, or high resolution settings. It's hard-coded capped limits in the engine, which is a big reason why we're begging Eidos/Square-Enix for the source codes. Interestingly, there are no threads about this issue with that FM. Have you tried lowering visual settings in the options menu just to rule it out, including lowering the resolution, since monitors have higher resolutions these days? It could be a corrupt file, too. Hopefully someone's figured it out for other FMs with the same rare error.

There's no way of turning off the rain as it's part of the mission design the FM author will have set up in Dromed. Unless you edit the game yourself, that is.
I'd definitely try reducing the screen resolution. If you've installed DDFix, remember to do it in both the ddfix.ini and cam.cfg files.

I'll do that. I remember when I set up DDFix I set the resolution to 1280x1024. 800x600 is the usual for Thief correct?

Yes, I think that's the default. You could also try 1024x768.

Why not 640x480, at least for testing purposes? That's the resolution I used when playing this mission (twice, I believe) on a far inferior computer several years ago, and it did work.
If it does work for you, you can increase the resolution until you receive the error message once again, and then go back to the highest resolution possible.
Oh, wait. ddfix doesn't support 640x480, if my memory serves me well.
