erm...editor....problems.... - by Bionicman

okay, so i downloaded a bunch of plugins (see previous thread) and i activated the ones that worked naturally, then was about to go to the editor to fix the rest when i decided i should write down the names of the ones that worked, so i loaded up the launcher, and clicked on data files....and waited....finally, i ctrl+alt+del'ed and it said it wasn't responding. so i re-launched and the same thing happened. i decided maybe it was just the wrong time so i went on to the editor and fixed all the plugins and went back and it happened again. so i restarted, and when it happened AGAIN i decided to reinstall. now, instead of clicking uninstall i just clicked the reinstall option (or whatever it's called) and it went through all the thingies and so i clicked on the launcher thing and all the options except elderscrolls.com and exit were grayed out....so i tried to uninstall but it couldn't find setup.exe....so i reinserted the cd and it asked if i wanted to install....and everything happened like it was supposed to. then when it got to the editor setup it asked if i wanted to uninstall. i figured that it probably had to uninstall before it installed so i clicked yes, so it uninstalled and then just went on and finished the setup. so i stuck in the editor disc and it asked if i wanted to install, i clicked yes, and then it said "error reading disc...please contact pete hines at [some NON local NON 800- number]" so i was like, f-that, i'm not gonna call long distance! then i copied all the files to the hard drive off the disc and tried running setup off my hard drive, same thing happened. so i decided it wasn't SO bad not having the editor...i loaded up the launcher, and clicked data files to check what plugins i had (i saved all the plugins and saves) but it froze up again! eeeeeergh......it plays fine and everything, with all of the plugins i had before i downloaded some more, but i want the editor and the ability to load up plugins, dagnabbit!
congrats if you read all that (forsythe), now what's wrong and how can i fix it?

*laugh* If I remember correctly, the editor needs to be installed before the game. As such, and as it sounds as if you don't have the editor installed, I'd try uninstalling the game and reinstalling the editor and the game.
Were it I, after uninstalling it I'd also copy/paste the Morrowind directory and then delete the original Morrowind directory. That way there's no chance of old configs screwing things up, and you can always copy your old savegames and plugins back in. (Oh, and the reason for the song & dance w/ "copy old/paste new/delete old" is because if the registry has the directory to be nuked in it, if you just rename it Windows sometimes changes the registry's info on the old path to the new path)

wait, i'm dumb....i forgot that you installed the editor from the morrowind disc....right now i'm re-updating and i guess i'll find out if the data files option will work this time around....i betting it will.

indeed, i was busy playing....and it works....wonderful!
now i just need to get that ram and all will be right in the world (it kinda ruins the experience when you have to quit and restart every hour or so).
