I have a friend who's been writing fantasy novels as long as I've known her (I think she was 14 or so when we met) and she told me Eragon was crap, but then against she's about as snobby as fantasy-buffs come (insofar as rating literature goes - she's not a snobby person).

Schatten's breaking down of the similarities with Star Wars, and the publishing history (written by 15 year old, initially self published) should speak for it's quality, really.
Also all the marketing materials that I've seen so far looks like they're trying to do teen emo Lord of the Rings.

A rather bitter writer I know observed: "Oh, boy... another mythic rip-off and... Oo! Let's just change the first letter of 'dragon' and see if anyone notices! Whatcha think? Crap?" but she's opinionated and bitter, as I said. I haven't read the books and the movie trailers surprised me with the indication that the protag is a human. I'd assumed from the cover pictures of a dragon that the protag was... a dragon! Shows what I know....

I've never heard of this and with a name like Eragon, I doubt I ever will again.

The (

Reading the first book right now. The start was interesting, but right now they're just wandering between cities and finding them all destroyed and lalala boring. I fucking hate long-ass journeys in these books; this is one of the reasons I stopped reading the Wheel of Time series (it being utter shit was the other one).

That's like saying someone is about as chaste as prostitutes come.

well its not original but then not many fantasy novels are these days. Its not big or clever but then its not really trying to be. or so my thoughts go!
