Can this be done and how? I'm sure when I had a look at Kilana's Morrowind Photo Album, there was a picture of her (sorry, of her character) brandishing two swords. How's this done? Can't find anything in the manual.

It is possible but only with some heavy moding tricks. You must create an animation with a player using two weapons one of them weapons is the players left hand because the game doesnt have any mechanism to place a weapon in the left hand. Then tag that animation to be an attack. When you equip a gloove or a gauntlet in your left hand your weapon is gone.

Ooh, this is far too complicated for me. Maybe I'll learn later. Thanks for the reply, all the same.

You don't have to do this yourself, Ania, there's a mod available to download, called Leiawen's Dual Wield. I've got this one and it's easy to install....you should be able to find it at morrowindfiles.com in their mod library.

You can't really duel wield... the second weapon in my screenshots are actually shields. Some mods create these parrying weapons so it looks like your holding 2 weapons... but you dont do twice the dmg.
Unless you have a moddeling program like 3ds Max or Maya, you can't make your own second hand weapons. You have to create new models so the weapon will align right in the game, you cant just take the steel sabre model that came on the cd, and use it in the shield slot, when you equip it, the sword would appear by your arm or in the air by it. Theres a few mods that add parrying weapons in the game(other than leia's duel weild)... check morrowind summit or morrowind files.
