This may seem like a n00b question but how are you supposed to enter key codes in IW??? When I go up to one of the doors all it wants to do is take out a multitool and hack it, there is no place to enter a key code even though I have the number..

They don't have a keycode interface in IW: if you have the code, highlighting the keypad and hitting your use key will automatically open it. If you don't have the code, it'll yank out a multitool because it assumes you're dumb. :)
Chances are, if you're getting 'multitool' all the time, you're looking at the wrong keypad.
It's an annoying console-related aspect, mostly: controllers being fairly shitty devices to manually enter codes with.

OK, thanks....I have only just started playing this game and while the story so far seems OK as well as the graphics (for an old game), I am finding the interface something that leaves a lot to be desired... What were they thinking.... Also the map sizes are incredibly tiny...

They were thinking, quite correctly, that consoles is where the money is.

So what?

Despite my personally thinking it's silly, it does stop people from cheating and using a code that they remember from a previous playthrough.
(A better solution to that would be to just randomise the codes a little.)

Would need an awful lot of additional voice acting in places, though.
