I aint eating it anymore! Seriously, this shit has me absolutly furious and sickened!

here's a few sickening points from from the undercover PETA agents' experiences...
PETA video shows pigs abused at Iowa farm Quote:
"I hate them. These [expletives] deserve to be hurt. Hurt, I say!," the employee yells as he hits a sow with a metal rod. "Hurt! Hurt! Hurt! Hurt! ... Take out your frustrations on 'em." He encourages the investigator to pretend that one of the pigs scared off a voluptuous and willing 17- or 18-year-old girl, and then beat the pig for it.
Quote:
the new manager abused animals by shocking and kicking pigs.
Quote:
At one point in the video, workers are shown slamming piglets on the ground, a practice designed to instantly kill those baby pigs that aren't healthy enough. But on the video, the piglets are not killed instantly, and in a bloodied pile, some piglets can be seen wiggling vainly. The video also shows piglets being castrated, and having their tails cut off, without anesthesia.
Quote:
"So many times, it took all of my willpower not to step up and do something," he said, adding that he also saw the supervisor shove a cane into a sow's vagina.
Quote:
Lynn Becker, an owner of MowMar, called the abuses on the video "completely intolerable, reprehensible. We condemn these types of acts. If any animals were abused in the brief time we've owned the farm,
if we still employ these people, any attempt will be made to investigate and initiate corrective action immediatelyJust an FYI the next time you want that pizza topped with bacon...it's a fact that animals which experience high levels of anxiety prior to slaughter release dangerous toxins into their blood. But beyond that, this is just plain fucked up!

Well, you wouldn't exactly expect these people to be animal-lovers. If you think this is bad, you should've seen cats being put to sleep the cheap ways. The world is a fucked up place if you decide to focus on shit like this. I guess this counts as raising awareness or something like that, but how many people still care to follow up on what became of the abused chicken story that seemed to be a huge deal not too long ago? Anyway, yeah... Between animals being abused and farmers using piss water to irrigate jalapeno fields and causing salmonella outbreaks, you run out of things to eat pretty quickly if you let these get to you.

Thief13x, have you been to PETA's website or searched Youtube for vids on animal abuse? It isn't just pigs. It's almost any animal raised for food. It's animals sold in pet stores. It's animals used for research. It's animals raised for their fur. And China is even worse.
Any animal whose life can be traded for monetary value is a candidate for despicable treatment to maximize profits. But this is merely a symptom of a much larger problem...the widespread disregard for life of any type. People do horrid things to animals because they can. They also do horrible things to other people when they can get away with it.

Yeah, thanks for ruining the thread. Now it will be all about people crying their brains out on how she should be electrocuted as well. Or worse.
pavlovscat on 17/9/2008 at 14:40
Why? That was Schrödinger's cat. That girl expected the kitten to be dead. But most people expect that it wasn't. So which is it? Either way she is gonna be messed up for a good long while.

Bacon tastes gooood. Pork chops taste gooood

Hippies are right again! And the good news for everyone is that there are food suppliers who don't treat their animals like this.
(They're on a roll these days though, so maybe conservatives should stop mocking them when they suggest things like electric cars and cleaner air and knowing where your food comes from. edit: maybe not PETA though, I'm mocking them until they stop saying it's only ok to have a pet if you call it a "companion" or whatever.)

I don't like seeing any animal suffer. You can call me a hypocrite, if you will, but I lurvs teh bacons!! NOM NOM NOM!! In fact, I could not be a vegetarian.

RE: research animals, in my experience you have to jump through an entire field of ethics hoops before you get anywhere near a live animal in any experiments. They're pretty deadly serious about it. Suggesting that the kind of behaviour mentioned in the first post is commonplace in scientific research is more doctor robotnik than close to reality.
Unless you work on arthropods. no one gives a shit about them.
