Enormous SS2 Problem - by Mr. LOL

Unfortunately the auto/quick saves use the same slot in SS2, a major oversight on behalf of the devs. Isn't there some mod or hack you can use to get different slots for them though? Not much use to you now I suppose.
Is loading the game up with godmode on out of the question if you have 0 health in the save?
I've screwed my SS2 quicksaves more than once and it's _really_ easy to do that. Even loading a save from a normal save slot will overwrite the quicksave. That's why I'm now using a
little (
http://www.autohotkey.com/) AutoHotKey script to make a backup of the current save whenever I hit my quick save key and restores that backup when I hit quick load.
Here's the script:
Code:
Hotkey, IfWinActive, ahk_class LookingGlassTechnologies_WindowsGameShell_v2
Hotkey, !s, QuickSave ; these can be adjusted
Hotkey, p, QuickLoad
QuickSave:
SendRaw {o} ; the SS2 key that's bound to quicksave
sleep 1000
FileCopyDir F:\games\Sshock2\current\ , F:\games\Sshock2\current_bak\, 1
if ErrorLevel
MsgBox error.
return
QuickLoad:
FileCopyDir F:\games\Sshock2\current\ , F:\games\Sshock2\current_bak2\, 1
if ErrorLevel
MsgBox error.
FileCopyDir F:\games\Sshock2\current_bak\ , F:\games\Sshock2\current\, 1
if ErrorLevel
MsgBox error.
SendRaw {p} ; ss2 key that's bound to quickload
return
You need to adjust the SendRaw Commands to send the keystrokes that you set up in SS2.
I couldn't get sending Alt keystrokes from AHK to SS2 to work, that's why I've bound o and p to quick save/load in SS2.
Also note that the sleep 1000 is crucial. Otherwise you'll copy a half written save game as AHK doesn't wait until SS2 saved the game ;-)
sleep 1000 forces the AHK script to sleep 1 second which is probably not enough on very slow machines.

Ah, that's much better of course. Thanks!

SS2 is excellent, and I'd take it over Bioshock any day.
All the more reason to go back to your last good save and play forward.
SS2 just keeps getting better with time.

There has to be a way to fix this, if someone will let me know what the quick save key is (no I have never used it) I'll see if anything can be done.

The default quicksave key is [Alt+s], and [Alt+l] for quickloading.

Ok, I'll see what I can find, and fix it if possible. Probably the easiest thing is to force the autosave slot to only be used for autosave, and not overwritten by anything else.

FYI, all level transitions and loading a save game overwrite that slot.
