My uncle used to be a sports teacher in his earlier years. This was when Eastern Germany still existed and though he wasn't a fat cat in the communist party he was usually in line with it. In his later years he became a lot more relaxed, he travelled a lot with his wife, climbed the Himalayas and whatnot.
A few weeks ago he was at home when he noticed a crack in the wall near the stairway. He got a ladder and placed it somewhat awkwardly with one side on the stairway. When he was up on the ladder it slid away and he crashed down the stairway.
Lying at the bottom he called his wife and told her that he had "done something pretty stupid" and that he couldn't feel his legs any more.
In the hospital it turned out he had broken his spine extremely high up, he had to endure several operations. This was in November. Since then he's in intensive care at the hospital, his status is this:
He cannot move any part of his body, he's full awake but can't speak since he also can't breath by himself. His wife's only hope is he might be able to sit in a wheelchair in a few years, but it's highly unlikely. The truth is that he will most likely die of the next infection, only his mind is still alive, trapped in body that's become useless.
Please take a moment to enjoy touching the little recess above your lips. It may be soft or stubby or maybe it's both at the same time. Stand up and notice how well your muscles, bones and sinews work together. Touch the back of your chair softly. Breath. Proceed to live intensely.

Thank you for that eye-opener. I've a lot to be thankful for... I'm sorry about your uncle.

Jesus Christ. That's pretty fucking shitty. I'm sorry, Kolya.

Oh don't worry about me, we weren't that close. Still his terrible and random fate struck me in a way, putting my own worries firmly into perspective.

Funny how life changes in the blink of an eye, and why do they say its *funny*, and who is *they*? They can go to hell, and funny it isn't. I hope he does improve some Koyla.

When I saw the "Enjoy" title I thought it was gonna be a link to some awesome video or the likes. I kept reading waiting for the rewarding part to kick in, hoping for some bel-air type joke but no, it just kept getting progressively worse.
My condolences man.

I think it's less funny-haha and more funny-that's fucked up.

That sucks man. It's even worse than that guy in the book/movie The Diving Bell And The Butterfly (which is a true story), at least he could communicate by blinking his eyelid.
