Engineering won't load. - by sarmatron

I'm currently on Ops and have just gotten the override. SHODAN instructs me to go to Engineering and blow up the engines, but when I try to go there, it just drops me into a half-loaded level, with nothing but the surroundings rendered (the walls, floors and ceilings are there, but enemies, doors, crates, buttons, etc. aren't). Is there a solution for this? I really don't feel like starting over.
I've tried reinstalling, and that didn't help. I should also add that I've already finished the game once with this same CD, so it can't be a crappy version issue.

Reinstalling ain't gonna help if you used the same savegame, it is likely that the engineering MIS file in your save folder is corrupted. I'm not sure how effective it is to replace the MIS with the one from the main game folder, but it will make the return to engineering from Ops. . .very interesting.

I had something similar happen to me on my last game. Replacing the .mis with the standard one won't work, since you'll be unable to reach main engineering due to the leak in the coolant tubes, which you probably can't purge twice (not sure, you'd have to try it.)
Replacing the Eng1.mis file with a working version from a previous save will work, however.

Crap, the only non-corrupted file I have is at the beginning of Engineering. I'll try to get to the very end, save and use that MIS.

Sounds like a good plan. But you have to go through the cargo bays again, you have my sympathy. :o

It worked! Thanks, guys. It seems to have created some issues with the game (I can't psi hack or use ICE-picks, and using Electron Cascade crashes the game), but I guess I'll just have to do without.

Oh, God. The cargo bays. It took me, like, fifteen minutes just to find Sanger on that God damn platform and only then did it occur to me that I could have just loaded up a later save and checked the code.

You'd have missed a lot of nanites, hypos, ammo, cyber modules, etc.
I always deep-scan the cargo bays for stuff. You will find one surgical unit, as a matter of fact.

Missed a lot of goodies which he'd already collected the first time around, you mean? He wouldn't have been able to keep them anyway (well, not without dumping them somewhere, which would basically be cheating yourself extra equipment...)

Good point, I had forgot he was replacing the MIS file for a second. :p
