What's weird is that they were working problem free for me last week. I could play them just fine, up to and including making them fullscreen.
Maybe YouTube changed something or other, and now the forum software is having problems handling them.

I'll look into this later - I suspect they've changed something as you suggest. Seems OK on my mobile devices which is why I didn't spot it.

I can watch videos but can't go full screen either. There's a message in the corner by the icon saying 'Full screen unavailable' and a link to 'Find out More' which takes me to a YouTube page about checking preferences. But on YouTube itself and everywhere else, I can go full screen.
On the other hand, if I'm watching Nicker's Trump video, full screen is a horror I'm happy to avoid.

I'm still getting 'Full screen unavailable'. I've tried 2 videos just in case YouTube was protecting me from ynw.

I kind of wish embedded YouTube videos would just go away and get replaced with straight links to YouTube.
Those inline players never work, and it's not just on TTLG but in general.
Don't let you go fullscreen, don't default to 1080p... generally more trouble than they're worth.
