It was definitely less clunky than the first play through vid.
I agree that this was an improvement over the previous video, yet there is still much to overcome...I await the next preview.

They're talking about readables and investigating your environments being a major part of the gameplay. So it seems that's in as well.
I have some issues still (for instance, I want to be able to shoot rope arrows everywhere, and I don't know if you can do that yet or not) , but I am more optimistic about it being more true to the original Thief trilogy than I was before. It's all a matter of how well they can bring it together at the end.

Oh, and something so subtle I and just about everyone else probably missed it at first. When Garrett was climbing the rope arrow, it didn't switch to 3rd person. It stayed FP all the way through the demo.

Let's hope they will reconsider having any forced 3rd-person switching in the game.
The key is how these things are implemented in the game...that will make all the difference.

I didn't, and it was indeed very nice to see that. All in all, compared to the utterly disastrous footage shown by Stéphane Roy and Doritosman, this one was much more solid. Lots of things are still pretty bad in it — that swoop/dash ability looks completely overpowered and/or guards are completely oblivious to it, checkpoints are a ridiculous idea and should never ever be used in a stealth game — but it was a lot less clunky than yesterday.

I'm sure from this point on we'll see a mix of good and bad...and the problem with the bad, is that it tends to overshadow the good.

I prefer checkpoints to quicksave/quickloads myself, because they're less cheesy, and more difficult to abuse. Really, it all depends on how they're implemented. Like are they far enough apart that it doesn't suck all the challenge out of the game? Or are they so close together you can spam-die your way through a difficult situation (which is another problem I have with quickloads)? Will dying feel like a setback, or a minor inconvenience?
And the swoop-dash looks a lot like being able to roll between cover in DX, though more player controlled, less automatic. It's a quick and subtle way to get around, but guards will still notice you if you do it right in front of them.

Cool. I missed the part where they talked about different surfaces having different sound factors. Guess that's in as well.
