It does look nicely dark though, and Garrett doesn't look too emo.

It's not the end of the world. Although Russell's Garrett was... simply... much better.
The trailer is interesting. Fortunately, Garrett was not portrayed as assassin. Unfortunately, no gameplay footage.

EM told us that using the same voice actors for the new game was something they would take seriously
So maybe they tried but Russell had other contracts to fulfill. I'm sure we'll have the answer at some point.

I knew Russell wasn't a priority based on D'Astous's first response to the question, but held out hope.
