Heh heh heh.
If it was before the candle, "he" burned the long tips of "his" nails off, and if after, "he" blackened "his" nails with soot and wiped the pads of "his" fingers off on "his" dark clothes. :joke:

Homophobia and transphobia all up in here. Is it Friday already?

'They' are being 'funny' Dethtoll, it's not for us to understand or comment upon.
What is the goddamn point in this video? They might as well have just shown a picture of a chair for 20 seconds. Ooh putting a candle out, wow am I ever excited. I hate teasers. I hate those black posters you get that just have a release date on and maybe a blurry white line somewhere as well. And I hate trailers for trailers (easily the most boof dogglingy bumfaced trend in modern advertising). This isn't even really at that level. I mean I could watch that and think oh mr thief must be sleepy because he just put out his bedside light. I want to see some actual actions of some kind.

To show how quietly Garrett can put out a candle.

Is there a noisy way to do it?
Sorry, yes, of course there are an infinite number of noisy ways to put out a candle. Is there a noisy way one would expect someone to put out a candle?

Or just fear of '80s fashion.
The 'black fingernails and eyeliner is emo/effeminate' observation is a bit passé, fellas. Mötley Crüe wear enough makeup to make Tammy Faye Bakker dry-heave, and they've plundered their share of feminine anatomy. There's no shortage of legitimate grievances to level at the game without resorting to this sort of dim-witted vapidity.

If he'd licked his fingers, the moisture would sizzle. He held the wick too long, and if he wasn't a badass killer, he'd inhale sharply through his teeth, flap his hand rapidly, and say "Owowow!" aloud.
But actually, the main point of the video was to show off the engine, renderer, and character detail, plus give the target consumer an animated keyhole-narrow glimpse into that world. Now if they could just show us how it will look when players turn their gamma down for T4, as opposed to up for the previous titles. If the camera hadn't been pushed into the shot, we could've seen the shadow of Garrett's fingers on the tabletop.

I think the point of the footage is to show how good the engine looks, and it does look pretty good, assuming it hasn't been post-processed.
It's nice that Garrett can pinch out candles now. It's the hand that intrigues me. Are we to expect that a 3rd person arm will come out like that every time the player pinches out a candle? And it will be the correct hand, regardless of whether the player has a weapon equipped? And it will line up with the candle every time?
Will we see hands opening doors too? And grabbing loot? It will be interesting to see how much effort they've put into this.

The sequence was not taken from gameplay, but was specifically rendered for you guys in the community.
Oh, so that was scripted...no reason to assume the game will be like that then.

The grabbing animation in Crysis worked really well, in which they did a rapid and approximate substitution of 'item on the ground' to 'item being swept up by your hand' that didn't actually match but was fast enough that you didn't realise. Something like that would be neat. Be sensible to always make it the off hand.
