Alrighty, I think we've said just about everything that can be said about a game (Ultima) that has nothing to do with a thread on EM... Can we at least get back to the headaches talking about them? :)

Plus, it's making it embarrassing for others to admit that they're Ultima fans.
Bizarre. All the
Thief fans that embarrass me don't make me embarrassed about my own fandom.
I'm wondering, too, why all the EM fans aren't talking about all the good things EM's doing with Thief, pushing the good points to the forefront on principal, instead of resorting the the Internet default of bitching about the bitching? Counter the bad with more good, stand up for what you believe about Thief[4], not just booing the fans from the other side of the arena.

Pretty quiet around here all of a sudden - I wonder what EM thinks of the after effects/fallout from their April T4 media blitz. Mixed results I imagine. And my guess is we won't see much in the way of news for a while (months? E3?), at the very least until they've had a chance to retool their demo a bit.

I think they've stepped in it with their Stephen Russell decision. People who would have been inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt on material they release are now revved up to jump on them about every little detail. Anytime they release something it will trigger another wave of negative word-of-mouth. Got to be a marketing nightmare for EM.

If they'd listened all along, like we were told they were, they wouldn't be surprised at all that their decisions wouldn't make fans happy, and them not worrying about that would have obvious consequences played out many times a month for decades, amplified by the Internet connectivity. They asked for it, in a sense. While we never asked for this. The industry has grown up and we are but petulant children to them. I told them starting back in 2009, again and again, hoping they'd hear it just once, that telling us that we will like something, telling us that they are fans, telling us they are listening, telling us to trust them, were not things that will work in their favor, except for the easily-pleased and easily-bilked who don't need to hear that anyway.
The natural response to those statements is greater scrutiny and a holding them to their word, not relaxing and being content, except for those who don't need to hear that to throw their money away.

It's a missed opportunity (a future Thief game could rectify that!), how TMA had all the food (including flour, salt and pepper), kitchens, and yet, only in Soulforge could various items be placed into machines to create new items. Bring back combining world items into new items! :p
So you want to play as Garrett Master Baker, or Chef perhaps....:thumb:

If I wanna, yeah! He can steal the best meats and cheeses and loot pagan-y gardens for the best veggies, and serve the best wines and ales! "Objective: Bake a dozen shepherd's pies for the sullen guards. Currying favors can pay off handsomely down the road."
Frobbin' rows of carrots like Peter Cottontail, taffers!
:erm:

Cabbage stew, to complete the mission!

Much of what you mention (e.g. the way the guards speak) is in no way specific to
Ultima and
Thief - they both go back to the same mock-Shakespearean, Ren Fair clichés.
True...Yet, in all likelihood, they incorporated what they witnessed in the context of Ultima, thereby granting its' influence.
