Tomi, gotta say, I couldn't disagree more with your assessment of classic Thief in regards to exploration - IMO, there were so many little holes and crannies to explore, alternate routes, and sub stories that had nothing to do with you main objectives, to me Thief is the epitome of exploration, probably only surpassed by large scale open world games (which are in a completely different category than Thief anyway).
So, give me a point of reference - what games do you consider to be high on the exploring side of things? I'd be very interested to know.
Since you obviously read not only my post, but Brethrens as well, since you are obviously following the thread itself and not, um, *cough*. Ultima is clearly a fine place to start. If you are going to parade around in the support of "keeping the legacy of Thief alive", it seems either contradictory or comical to not support the games that inspired Thief to be so memorable in the first place. But hey man, I try not to look *too* deep into internet personalities and whatnot. So you just keep it up mister.

I think what he was trying to say is that you blab on more about Ultima than you do about Thief, and this is a Thief forum. That, and the fact that your perspective on gaming is extremely narrow since Ultima, Might & Magic, and Wizardy seem to be the only games you've ever played. EVER.

Im sorry Brethren, but I know more about Thief and where it came from than both you and that other guy combined plus. Since you were asking about the very set of games I listed, I figured it was an opportune time. I guess Ill go back to: trying to curb my fanatic tendencies again, but damn. This place can be very boring and often. Help!! This lunatic over here is frothing about ULTIMA again!!!! Im just sooooo sorry.

Have a star. No one cares.
Brethren is right. You just harp on about how you know about where Thief "came from" and blah blah Ultima blah. Take a step back man, for cripes sake! You're ridiculous.

You know, I asked you by PM for an explanation on what you mean by Thief's origins being rooted in Ultima, and I've seen others ask you in the forums here as well, and you know what? You ignore us and never respond. Yet you love to sit there and pretend like you have all this secret knowledge and information, almost like you're the president of your own little secret club, but you never back it up with even a shred of evidence. So guess what - I think you're full of shit. It's easy to sit there and say "I'm a Thief expert!" but you never give anyone a reason to believe you. At least jtr7 comes up with a lot of facts and essays and paragraphs full of information (sometimes too much, but so what), but he makes it obvious that he's a expert in Thief lore and knows what he's talking about.
You, you're just fake, a pretender.

Why don't we give Goldmoon the opportunity to provide us with a fuller and more detailed historical perspective.
Interestingly enough, I picked up both THIEF: The Dark Project and Might and Magic VI at the same time, back in '98.

If you havent played them, then nothing I can say will help. I *have* gone into various detail over the years however, you just dont like me. I have even provided comparison screenshots somewhere in some thread here how LGS borrowed from Might and Magic. The Lord Bafford - Lord British is the obvious one smacking you right on the head every day. Heh, its a throne room, how pretentious can you get? Hello? Duh. You know nothing of Ultima and the heritage of LGS.

Anyone know how LGS decided on the name Garrett? I've always wondered if it might have been a nod to Garriott.

To me it was amusingly obvious upon receipt. But then again, Ive been playing these games since they first came out.
