I don't know what to think of a lot of that. So much is just going to depend on how it's implemented and how much is optional. I don't want a Garrett who is commenting on every little thing. Wouldn't even want that with Stephen Russell doing the voice acting.
Wondering where he's been. If it's the Maw maybe there could be some time flow difference to account for enough time to have passed for the City to have progressed to a Victorian Age. Could account for his physical changes, as well, taking into consideration the weird creatures that the place seems to incubate. Likely none of that is the case, but that's never stopped us from speculating about things before. (On second thought, it can't be that. Basso is still around-- unless Basso is a very old man.)

It's just that we're all stunned, right now...and are reluctant to painfully go through the list.
It's no great surprise that you claim to be stunned by this this, but for the rest of us? I think you'll find most people react quite a bit more calmly.
Some of that information sounds fine, some sounds deeply problematic. Pretty much as we could expect.

This is true. I'm calm by nature, so that probably helps. :cheeky:

Count me in the stunned camp. I knew most of this, but there's a few things that are new and upsetting.
Quote:
- light gem replaced by small, three state visibility meter in the lower left corner of the screen, you're either visible, not visible or can be spotted if you move or are too close
- focus allows to instantly rob people of their jewelry, automatically pick a lock or help in combat
- a swoop ability for swiftly moving between shadows for more dynamic gameplay
- flashy third person cam for stealth & environmental takedowns - you can drop a damaged statue on a guard using your bow for example
- the blackjack is the main melee weapon, no word on swords or daggers
- devs say the game will require "a computer with a $250 video card"
- no Eric Brosius ambience eitherI'm glad that I've decided I'm not going to buy this game, that whole list is upsetting. I've played Dishonoured and Bioshock Infinite. I've had my fill of these types of games. I'm going back to my point and click, simulation, strategy and rpg.
I will sign any petition or forum thread you need me to to help fix these oddities*...I will back up this community since I've felt a kinship to you all over the years. I've played a good portion of the fan missions, and I will continue to do so. I just bought the Thief bundle on Steam a while back since it's optimized for Win7 :D
Sidenote: I've got Stephen/Garrett on my sound theme in various places, so he talks to me every day. It's so comforting :)
*not sure what to call them right now.

The binary stealth system kinda flies in the face of what they've been saying about hiding in the shadows being a gradient.
As for the rest, I'm with Toolhead. Some sounds fine. Some? Not so much. I still want to see it moving before I start making any big judgement calls.

I don't want to overreact to any info out at this point, but WTF is this? Dare I say, this sounds an awful lot like Dishonored's Blink? I really hope it's not, but it's sounds awfully strange. What happened to, you know, actually running between shadowed areas? :p
Vivian on 9/4/2013 at 16:52
I'm guessing that it's very similar to running between shadows
Renzatic on 9/4/2013 at 16:56
Yup. But quickly.

:weird:
Uh, guys, I get the idea of what it is. What I was really getting at is - do you want something like this in a Thief game? Maybe it's just a sprint type action, or on the extreme side some kind of teleport. Whatever the case, it seems kind of unnecessary and way out of place in Thief. Garrett shouldn't need any type of super powers or enhanced magical abilities.

APART FROM TURNING INVISIBLE IN A BLOODY SHADOW ffs
