Cool! How much are they paying you? EM sends me regular shipments of hot pockets and packets of aspartame every first of the month for saying good things about that stupid game of theirs no one in their right mind would ever like.
.
Mmmm, hot pockets and aspartame.
Dia, props to you for being able to explain yourself and show that while you may not like it, other people may like it. I still am sad that you feel the way you do about the game, but I appreciate that you're not just jumping on the "I hate it because it's not Thief" thing that a lot of people here are. I do hope that when more concrete information or footage comes out, people are willing to change their minds about this game. If not, oh well.
Also, I hate this mentality people have where they assume you're some sort of corporate lacky who's paid to have a positive opinion on something. Hey, couldn't we just as easily say that people in here are from an opposing company and are being paid to be overly negative about the game? Also, I don't think anyone (or at least not everyone) who's being cautiously optimistic about this game agrees with everything that's been said. Like has already been pointed out, I don't think anyone is really happy that Stephen Russell isn't playing Garrett.

I agree, props to Dia.

Yes, one could. Both views are equally ridiculous. Perhaps it provides some form of entertainment/drama value;
for those so inclined? Quote:

Correct, we all love SR.

To clarify; I didn't intend to infer that some Taffers were actually rejoicing in the fact that SR is not doing the voice of Garrett. I realize that for some, this is no big deal; unfortunate, but no big deal. While to others it's a big deal indeed.
And I look forward to seeing videos of the actual gameplay. For better or worse. Sorry, but I'm still apprehensive about T4.

Thief on PS4- Behind-the-scenes at Eidos MontrealThe vid has no content regarding PS4, by the way:
(

Interestingly, Stephane Roy doesn't know what games Looking Glass drew upon for Thief: The Dark Project, but I'm glad he finds it unique enough. The things they say in the vid continue to be a mixed bag. For me, the opening statements of the two devs are the worst, but it gets better for the most part.

No problems. :thumb:

The most positive thing I've heard yet is that they're providing options to appeal to stealth fans and remove at least some of the hand-holding.
jtr7 on 7/4/2013 at 15:24
Yeah. The more they do that the better. And as long as the options aren't affecting things collaterally, yay!

Yay and boo.
"...neither a sequel nor a prequel." Oh good grief.
"But the reward? An aerial takedown..." Oh happy day. Another staple of modern gaming.

“If everything is magical,” Schmidt explains, “you lose your connection to the world. It's a very important part of the story, but we didn't want your character to shoot fireballs.”
Um, what? [Expletive]
Quote:
“Humans have very good peripheral vision,” he says, “but it's good for movement, not for details.” The stealth shroud, he argues, is just enough to clue the player in on his situation without fully distracting him or drawing his eye away from the action. “The old fans might be like, ‘Oh, we don't need that, just give us the gem!” but try it. It feels really natural.”
It may not be something that we'll truly come to terms with until we play it, but ultimately, Schmidt felt the light gem was a little intrusive. “The challenge shouldn't be within the UI or the controls,” he says. “It should be within the game itself, so you remain immersed.”
Maybe the TDS gem was intrusive and I agree, but I always wanted the thing smaller and lower to the bottom, where it stops being a conscious thing, therefore unintrusive, and if smaller and lower, it doesn't block the view, and it's a flick of the eyes or a switch of the conscious mind to notice it just outside the fovea, and when it gets middle-to-full bright, it doesn't need to be looked at directly. The health shields were always intrusive, and TDM showed a great way to minimize it. As far as looking at it to get in a dark zone, a shroud isn't taking away that "intrusiveness," just shifting it. Without a full human FOV, and without eyeballs that rotate in sockets in a flick to gauge surroundings without conscious thought, using the light gem is the same in the mind as using the controllers to move--it's a necessity, it's a part of gaming that has been done for decades and isn't unnatural, just a rerouted process, an accept surrogate means of input/output to work within the inescapable confines, but easy for the brain to ignore. Well, not all brains, understandably.
Don't tell me "try it you'll like it". A flashing screen and smoky edges is overkill and not natural. It may be easy to get used to, and that might be what feels natural. The darker the spot I'm in, the more powerful I want to feel in this game, and a fully opened FOV is better than any shrouding.
Schmidt annoys me more than anyone so far in the videos and articles. I liked the LGS/Origin Dan Schmidt, but this one's a guy I'm not happy to see on the team. Holy Schmidt he acts turned off by so much normal Thief stuff. What did Garrett say about Schmidt? "Oh yeah. He's gone."
The stuff I like so far is still just a promise and can be messed up for players like me, where others don't even notice or care, so I can't fully embrace the good sounding stuff, yet.

Taken in context, I can do nothing but agree with the guy...

Dishonored's approach to steampunk also helped to “ground” Thief, inspiring Eidos Montreal to move away from the more mystical and arcane aspects that Dishonored gifted its protagonist with, and that the prior Thief games' lore was built upon. “If everything is magical,” Schmidt explains, “you lose your connection to the world. It's a very important part of the story, but we didn't want your character to shoot fireballs.”
One of the things that kinda hurt Dishonored was how powerful Corvo was. That tension I mentioned being so central to Thief in a previous thread? Corvo could handle any situation thrown his way. He was a sneaky guy, but also a complete badass with a sword who could stop time and teleport himself 300 feet away in the blink of an eye.
It made for a damn fun game, but it wouldn't be good for Thief.
