I'm wondering if I should be posting an article in here, or if there should be a new thread dedicated to news on Thief 4 (much like the mega news thread by Mod Viktoria on the Eidos boards.) Seems like people are posting threads on specific things, like this is supposed to be about a trailer and site updates.
On second thought, screw it. There's been tons of unrelated shit in this thread already so one little link shouldn't hurt. Maybe this thread should just renamed to Thief 4 Trailer and News! or something. Anyway, enough rambling. Here's (

But so far I'm not finding anything appealing, anything that makes me want to run out & spend $60 on this game.
The graphics look fantastic, and they obviously put a lot of effort into the appearance of the game. But, frankly, I couldn't give two-shits about amazing graphics. It doesn't matter to me that a game looks good, or any promises of a unique experience. In the end, too many are just not that "unique".
Or interesting.
Plus, the killer for me is the next generation console (or yet another PC upgrade). Having just bought a 360, after saying to hell with the utter annoyances involved in trying to play "modern" games on PC, there's no way I'm going to rush out to buy
another console. I'd rather buy a month's worth of groceries with that kind of money than support an industry (i.e. game development) that seems to operate in the endless pursuit of producing one banal-homogenized-knock-off-game-after-another.
Overall, I hope EM has produced a great game--if not for anything else, then just for the sake of the Thief legacy. Other that, I'm over it and couldn't care less about a new Thief game (especially one that's a reboot...the lazy man's way to go about continuing a story, when one has no idea what the story is about).

Haha thanks, but I'm doing my best to make you change your mind, so that you would enjoy the game too. ;)
... the classic Thief games, how many of them sound quite silly?
Fire arrows?
"Explosive fire arrows that help Garrett to fight against the army of undead and blow them up in pieces!"Explosive mines?
"Lure your unsuspecting enemies into a lethal trap, and watch them burn in a deadly sea of flames from the shadows!"Moss arrows? I don't even know where to start. :p
1. We don't want our minds changed, and that's the beauty of being individuals, we can make up our own minds.
2. I see nothing wrong with those arrows/mines or whatever. It worked for the games. They made sense. Think of all the Final Fantasy games. How much of those things make sense in real life vs. the game world? Gamers accept things like moss arrows because that's what the game presents to them.
Now, a question:
Quote:
Perhaps the coolest part of the demo was when Garrett went into a full sprint to reach his destination in time: the sprint morphed into a parkour sequence of sorts that was extremely reminiscent of Mirror’s Edge.
What does this mean? I looked up parkour finally, and hasn't Jackie Chan been doing that for years? Anyway, does the paragraph above mean that weird thing that happens in say, Bioshock Infinite when you hit the shift key and run, it warps the screen a bit...messes with the FOV? Or does it mean something completely different?
I've never played Mirror's Edge, and I haven't really seen much of it. It didn't interest me. Perhaps if there's a video I might understand it better.

Mirror's Edge just integrated parkour into the game mechanics of an FPS, so the character reached her hands out to grab edges, the running and jumping were designed specifically for jumping up walls and over gaps and such, etc, and some of the screenshots & the video coming out for Thief have some of that flavor too. You're right, watching a quick video of a run through for a level will show you all you need to know.

I know this isn't what your saying, but in the context, it seems like you're saying "don't try to reason with me. Right or wrong, I've made up my mind and that's final".

So by your reasoning, the punch zones could make as much sense in the Thief universe as moss arrows and landmines.
Though that wasn't what he was trying to get at. He was arguing against Dia's assumption that the punch zones could make the game too action based, which is an unfair assessment considering Thief had landmines, fire arrows, and a big ass sword with which to hack at heads. Tools equally as violent, if not moreso.

1. Eh? That was meant to be a bit of a joke... I doubt that I could change your minds in any case, but obviously I would be happy if we all liked the game!
2. It worked for these games, yes. But why is it that every little mention of something action-related gets immediately translated into
"OMG they're turning this into some crappy mainstream action game!!" by many when it comes to Thief 4? If they introduced some other silly-sounding gadget or a weapon like the moss arrow tomorrow, how many of us here would laugh at it and call the developers by all sorts of unpleasant names? Hey, what about Mushroom Arrows! You shoot a Mushroom Arrow, and a large pink mushroom immediately grows up where the arrow lands... you can then use the mushroom as a portable trampoline to bounce on and trying to reach for high places.
PS. if any of you EM developers are reading this, I want a free copy of Thief 4 if you're using my idea.

I always thought it'd be neat if someone took one of those glowing mushrooms, stuck it to the end of a metal tube, and made fantasy flashlights out of them.

Yes, that is what I'm saying. I've made up my mind, I'm not buying the game. I made a post here (top of page 80 in case it doesn't link right): (

In the new game, I suppose you could say that since that focus thing will be there and everyone will pretty much accept it as lore or whatever it's supposed to be.

They were there, but I barely ever used them. I avoided fighting as much as possible...thank the builder for quicksave...so I never bought the mines. Fire arrows were good for cameras. That was fun :)

So you're just bickering about a game that you haven't seen in action and will never play? Have fun with that.
