The one comment that hasn't gotten thrown into the arguing very much, which is surprising, is the classic: "Let's see YOU make a better Thief game, smarty-pants! Hah! Thought so!" ~Smugly
To which I say, give us the legal rights to the IP, pre-Thief[4]!--Including the right to seek and employ who we want (leaving the decision to those individuals to say yes or no)--and grant us the funding for the development
alone, and there are many of us who will endeavor to do just that! Without the rights and the money all the creative taffers have their hands tied. If Thief[4] turns out to not be better than
the best existing FMs, it fails to be the best and smartest stealth title in the world. The taffers here have proven they can build better than LGS.
Yes!! Those wonderful fm creators have already done this with Cosas and T2x, and omg, look at Christina's series, and I can't even name all the other series or creators right now, but you know who you are. And we still have the guy who did the Cradle mission, right? Isn't he one of us??

Nope, he's wasting his talent at Irrational. Jordan Thomas.

Nice, this is perhaps the most promising release so far!
My favourite things about this:
- "respecting the past, but adapting it with today's expectations"
- "a very complicated and complex system to detect whether you're in the shadows or not"
- improved AI! \:D/
- different playstyles, but you still have to be stealthy

I just found this on the official forums. A guy got to see the game in action, and he goes through the trailer and talks about a lot of things, including the lockpicking minigame (described like Oblivion).

What was wrong with the light bar? Seems to me it worked well enough over the last 10 years through three Thief games and hundreds of FMs. Why does it have to be '
a very complicated and complex system'? Guess it must've gotten broken with all that usage through the years and EM had to fix it, right? Right.
Why am I having visions of TDS' lockpicking system all of a sudden?
:(

You're trying too hard to read between the lines again.
There was nothing wrong with the light bar... (although I don't think it was
perfect either - in the old Thief it didn't leave much room for surprise)... but some of you doom-mongers kept saying how Thief 4 will probably have a simple binary on/off lighting system (for the "stupid console kids", you know) that will definitely suck, so this is rather complicated and complex compared to
that at least, don't you think? And with the "new" dynamic lighting I suppose that the system has got to be a bit more complicated in technical sense.

Why did you pick TDS, or did you actually find T1 & T2's "hold down one button for a pre-determined time to pick a lock" approach better? Don't get me wrong, the lockpicking system in TDS was pretty bad (which is a shame because with a little bit of tweaking it could have been really good!), but it wasn't exactly that great before that either. Any improvements to that can only be a good thing.

Why is it always 3?
The new Torment has 4, actually. But then again it is a game that likes to break rules.

Tomi, I honestly hope you enjoy the game, I really, truly do. But so far I'm not finding anything appealing, anything that makes me want to run out & spend $60 on this game. The more I read, i.e.: 'and slow down hand-to-hand combat in order to pick specific parts of your enemy's body to target', the less it appeals. Let's just call it a matter of personal preferences and leave it at that. I wish you good taffing.

I'm finding plenty, though there are some things I'm a little iffy about. The inclusion of punch zones sounds a little dumb at first glance, but if the stealth is better, the enemies smarter and more aware, the game more complex and wide open, will that one feature ruin the rest for you?
I'll probably be buying it day one, but you don't have to. Just wait and see what everyone else says before you decide to get it for yourself. If it sucks, you've saved yourself some cash. But if it's great, go ahead and get it. Why deny yourself a good game just for some niggling issues?
