Oh good Lord.

I like this teaser and I think Garrett new (even seems there is deep Russell's influence) voice fits good... Meanwhile, ambient sound is very different from Eric's but I like this too... Maybe I'm ready now for renew, after I didn't play Thief FMs since Skyrim out:)
But it is too soon.

Well, you're entitled to your opinion Durinda. But afaic, EM has totally mucked things up - imo they don't have the right to call this game Thief. They should rename it immediately to avoid further confusion as it seems they're only paying lip-service to the original Thief games and have actually developed a bastardized version of all the other platform games heroes and just thrown in pretty graphics as a soporific in hopes we won't notice. Parkour your way outta this one, EM, you bloody bastards.
And Garrett's new voice sucks ...... it sounds wooden, as though the actor is just reading aloud from a script. Epic fail.

As if we
needed to drape a bright pink bow on the Dishonored/ThiefBoot comparisons.
Instead of being happy we're getting a new Thief, and already have a nice Thiefish spiritual successor, we're all running around feeling sorry for ourselves, screaming that they don't understand us, and they're gonna ruin everything forever.

Well, if the boot fits.......
The problem is, Renz, that in the opinion of many this does NOT look like a 'new Thief' or Thiefish spiritual successor. Well maybe to TDS, which is a whole other can of worms. But EM's taken too many liberties and changed far too much to even call this game 'Thief', not to mention having deliberately mislead us from day one about Stephen Russell, etc. Perhaps it could have been a Thief spin-off ... maybe ..... but then they should've totally forsaken Garrett's character entirely and invented a whole new protagonist. (Their 'new' version of Garrett has him looking like a terrorist from a Middle Eastern country.) Touting this as the 'New Thief' is just wrong on so many levels. I'll just go with my gut feeling that this is not going to end well. Afterall, everyone's entitled to their own opinions, right?
And sometimes a little hysteria can be a good thing - it clears the air, you know.
;) :p

if the boot fits, run around screaming? What's in the goddamn boot? A cat?
Also Dia, middle-eastern ok (kind of. Eastern European more), but why exactly does he look like a terrorist? Incidentally, how do you look like a terrorist? Please don't say look middle-eastern.

Here's the way I see it. It's been about 9 years since the release of Thief 3. It was an alright game that was plagued by some bad design decisions early on, and was shoehorned into a console that could barely handle it. While it wasn't nearly as good as it could've been, it still ended on a high note, and closed the trilogy nicely.
Now here we are, a decade later, and an entirely new design team have decided to pick up the series. Maybe they loved the series, know what made it tick, and want to resurrect the gameplay and style for an entirely new generation. There have been tons of good stealth games that have come out since, but none have quite perfectly replicated The Thief Experience. They want to give it a go. Give it the 'ole college try.
...and since they're an entirely new set of artists, level designers, and what have you, working on a series that's already had a satisfactory conclusion and came out a decade ago, they've decided to put their own spin on the series. Give it their own touch, rather than try and ape LGS' nearly unapeable style.

Yup. But try to understand that everyone here is the core fandom. They've been living and breathing Thief through excellent FMs and great spinoffs like TDM during the downtime between official releases. All that time, you've all been interacting together, expanding the world, studying it's every nook and cranny. After awhile, you've all kinda personalized it and made it your own.
...which is exactly what EM is doing now. They're making their Thief. Which won't be your Thief. Not exactly. But that doesn't necessarily mean it's gonna be a bad Thief.

Yup. A little craziness never hurt anyone. Helps get the humors flowing and all that good stuff. :P
Just try to keep it in check, otherwise you'll all go down that path to the dark side of fandom and end up becoming oldschool Fallout fans. O_o

No, it means it's not going to be
Thief. Period. Full Stop. There is literally nothing in terms of gameplay, theme, or character which shares any similarity to the original trilogy except in the broadest of terms.
Eidos has dug up a corpse and skinned it in order to parade around town in said skin and cash in on people recognizing it.
