Fairly certain it's a joke.
They haven't even linked to the trailer on their (
www.thief4.com) main webpage. Which is a dead giveaway.

Could be because the official unveiling is still tomorrow, leak or no.

I notice there are different scenes and "missing" portions of sequences that were in the animator's sizzle-reel, so hopefully we will see the whole thing in a few months--and maybe with a different voice actor VO.
The words "Market Avenue" appear to be superimposed over the original rendered frames, floating, unless it's an artifact of compression.
Is the mine-like device borrowing from this thing that never made it into TMA?:

Wait and see, wait and see. TDS was a weak sister and Mr. Russell's voicework couldn't save it. Still, it would be nice. Eidos probably needs to move millions of copies to justify development though. Substituting less expensive voice actors in order to polish gameplay/sound/visuals would be a sensible decision. This thing has to deliver against stiff competition AND thrive, not just please the diehards.
If rasta-fying Garrett by 10% gets us a level editor and sequels, I support recycling to the EXTREME!
So, clocks and watches are showing up all over the place. I hope there's no timed mission! But boy am I glad to see clocks, with recognizable numbers, and all 12 of them, and hopefully we will see clockwork devices that aren't always a clock!

Oft-stated, which takes us right back to the fact they could've made another stealth title and left Thief alone, rather than bastardize it further. We're hoping it undoes what TDS did, but it's not looking like it at key points, while other things are nice, indeed.

The way I see it, the Thief universe is more than interesting enough to play around with and stretch it out a bit. The Keepers, the Hammerites, the City, Garrett. There's plenty of room for different interpretations of the concepts contained within Thief while still keeping true to their original spirit.
This is what I see they this new Thief as. It's not quite a complete reboot. Not quite a do over. Rather, it's more of a tweak and a spin of the original setting and themes. I don't see this as necessarily a bad thing, provided it's done well.

I hope we get to see what is chasing Garrett, or what he's trying to reach in time, that he bolts toward that window way down the long hallway, and risks taking on the guard. The way it's edited and choreographed, he threw the "mine" ahead of himself, and then ran down the hall past it. Neither the guard, nor the "mine", are a danger to him until he runs at them both, so what would compel him to do that? I like that he evades the guard and just continues to move past him, acrobatics and clichéd crap aside, but then he blows the guard up, anyway, keeping that element of the promos for each older title (promos, not Intros).

Didn't like:
* the modern matches.
* the ninja-like flip he does to evade the guards
* the accented way he pronounced "opportunity". Didn't sound natural at all.
* Garrett's purple lipstick
* The terrible prose. "Some believe the perfect heist lies in the preparation, some say it lies in the timing... for me it's a way of life." Huh? It doesn't even make sense.
Okay, even I have to admit this is ridiculous. It's a trailer, of course it's going to be a certain way. When is an animated trailer ever exactly like the game? The game isn't going to look like the trailer, so I wouldn't say analyzing the trailer so thoroughly is going to get you anywhere. Ok, yes, it might give you some possible hints into how the game will be, but nothing more. For example, your point about him doing a "ninja-like flip." I highly doubt he'll be doing that in-game. Then again, I could be completely wrong and if that's the case I'll have to stick my foot in my mouth.
I don't know, I actually don't feel like they're ruining the game. Granted, it will be somewhat modernized (things like Focus being in the game of course) but I'm not convinced at this point it's going to be a complete shitfest. A friend of mine said that it's not
Thief, but it could be a good game. Perhaps he has a point, I guess we'll see in due time.

so what would compel him to do that?...
If this were a shot from the actual game, I could understand the speculation. But right now, I'm thinking the need for a fast paced action packed trailer is about the main reason why Garrett does that.

Only a small number of people are completely turned off by what they see. It's weird and disturbing to keep making the full-out rejection to be widespread and utterly hopeless. :sweat:
