Seriously, after all the recent talk in the podcast about how important Garrett is to the Thief franchise, they are doing themselves a monumental disservice if they dont give some of that money to Russell, and let him take his rightful place.

Seriously though, remember the early footage of Bioshock Infinite featuring SR as the main character? Yeah, well maybe it'll be something similar here.

Quit griefing the threads, you two (to put it ever-so-mildly). People are trying to have fun, here, and you just feel left out.
I like a lot of things in the trailer, but things I like aren't issues to address while EM is reading what we say for reasons y'all don't understand. If I'm not pointing something out over the next few hours and days, I'm not worried about it.

My first reaction is that the character is very much like a new character that's Garrett in name only. And they felt compelled to use the character of Garrett or else risk not having much of any connection left to Thief at all (which is probably right). So I see the "we want to have cake & eat it too" situation they painted themselves into. I'm not thrilled about it, but I can understand how they got there.
If I think about it that way, as basically a new character with a pseudo-Garrett avatar, then I can probably enjoy it as a stealth game. I mean, this is what we do with so many FMs that have pushed the character of Garrett & use different voices, so I don't see it as a game-killer. It just cuts the cord to any feeling of deep authenticity and tapping into the old feelings I had with the game maybe.

No, I'm not freaking out. You may be interpreting my words as freaking out, but I'm not. There is no wailing and gnashing of teeth. I respect where you're coming from though. Perhaps I'm coming off as irrational...may be due to not being as eloquent as some other posters on here, but I can assure you that I am not freaking out at all.

No, I'm not inferring that having SR would make EVERYTHING legit. Having a character named Garrett and not voicing him with Stephen Russell while the man still has a breath in him is a huge mistake in my opinion though. This will be great for new fans, but not for me.

Freaking out is something I wasn't doing. :) Personally, I think the trailer is pretty nice looking but if they're trying to sell this game to me as a long time fan, then I prefer to have SR voicing Garrett or an entirely new character voiced by the new guy.

He will still believe you are freaking out. Reasoning with him is a wasted effort. He and his buddy are freaking the hell out over every other sentence, and it's vacillating between piteous and despicable. Watch how they take common figures of speech or typical geek behavior and freak out over them. I think they are stuck in some sort of virtual forum gaming hallucination. It's really interesting to behold, and yet, horrific.

Yep...the names "Garrett" and "Thief" are must have assets for sales, regardless of quality of character or world.
