Sorry henke it wasn't on purps xx
I got on fine with it. Maybe it was because I was so pleasantly surprised it was there at all.
Elephant in the room is that TDP has an entirely separate goddamn key for run forwards, which is the still the stupidest control decision I've ever come across.
That was the default setting, but couldn't it be changed to a modifier in the menu? I'm sure I had it set to a modifier.
Vivian on 12/4/2013 at 10:24
There's a speed modifier, but it's the other way (the 'creep' button from TMA, basically).
DrK on 12/4/2013 at 11:19
Alright, that's it. I'm done.
Now I'll avoid any kind of information or news about this game. It might be a communication problem, but the more I read, the less I want it.
I'll just wait for gameplay videos and feedbacks from players here and there.
This interview sounds like a way for them to say "we make sure you can play the game mostly on gamepads, because there are too many buttons on a keyboard and it's confusing" :erg:

I remember first playing TDP and for some reason I used to switch between WASD and the arrow keys depending on whether I was running around or being stealthy - I think that must have come from TDP having that specific 'creep forwards' key.
Compared to some games though unless they come up with some really silly ideas, Thief shouln't need too complex a control system.

Yeah, it's really strange and, may I say, worrying, really
worrying that they might be considering a pad-friendly control scheme for a game coming out on consoles.
DrK on 12/4/2013 at 11:56
I don't care about the consoles, I'm worried about the PC version. I'm afraid of extremely simplified controls and a game that basically plays by itself (quicktime events and stuff) because of a console friendly gameplay.
Deus Ex HR suffered this, at some point I was just rushing bare hands in the middle of the fights, relying on cinematic takedowns to make my way through. Even though I liked the game, I don't want to replay it because its gameplay was boring.
Vivian on 12/4/2013 at 12:08
I, on the other hand, avoided takedowns like the bloody plague. They look awful and they are basically cheating. I had a lot of fun with that game.
NB who here has flashbombed themselves in Thief classic because 'interact' and 'use item' are the same key?

You've got to be shitting me...Debating whether focus can be disabled?
Maybe... focus is such an important part of the game that playing without it becomes almost impossible:erg:
jtr7 on 12/4/2013 at 12:50
Focus Pocus. Presto, change-o, rearrange-o. Magic that plays the game for the player.

I am not encouraged, regardless of how 'honest' EM is now being about dumbing down T4, they're still dumbing it down. Again. Sounds as though they're gearing it towards hyperactive teens who have the patience of gnats. Wish they wouldn't have called it Thief in the first place; this whole mess could've been avoided.
So far this is what I fear T4'll end up looking like (thanks sterlino for sharing this one in the first place - funny but tragic at the same time):
