Please, dont put words into *my* mouth like you do with tldr66.
Eh? I was asking a question ("do you feel that EM are desecrating the legacy of Thief?"), how's that putting words into your mouth? :erg:
Quote:
The point is so much more simple than desecrating anything. If you take enough *core* elements out of a series, can you really still call it the same name?
No.
But the question is, have they actually taken too many core elements out of Thief? You say
"hell yes" (okay,
that is putting words into your mouth, but I think you'll agree with that :p), I say
"probably not, but that remains to be seen". We don't know a lot of things for sure yet, but many of my core elements for the game still seem to be there. Not in the exact same way as they were in the previous games perhaps, but they're still there. Some will be gone, and there'll be some new elements that may be worse or better than the old ones. We'll see.
Quote:
They will not desecrate the legacy of Thief, my friend. If they blow it, they will enjoy the same results that Deadly enjoyed --
EM probably wouldn't mind if they "blew" it again if the results were like this:
Quote Posted by "Wikipedia"
Like its predecessors, Thief: Deadly Shadows was well received by reviewers, garnering a GameSpot rating of 8.3 with an 8.5 rating from selected notable critics and the PC version received a score of 8.6 from IGN, winning IGN's "Editor's Choice" award and "Game of the Month" award for May 2004. Most reviewers praised its artistry, exceptionally refined standard of lighting, graphical and level design, visual and sound effects, music, immersiveness, voice acting and solid gameplay.

You're still not much of a gamer outside of Thief, are you? I'm starting to see why New Thief is such serious business for you. Is it the only upcoming game you have any interest in whatsoever?
Personally, there are a couple dozen games coming out in the next two years I'm looking forward to, so I can't get too precious about Thief. If it's simply a good game that doesn't have much in common with the original? Good enough. If it turns out to be a huge irredeemable piece of crap? Well that would be a shame, but not the end of the world.
Where are you getting this doomsday, end of the world, idea? Or the desecration of legacy? We know you don't know what we are saying, but if only YOU'D realize it.

As great as wikipedia is...

...it cannot take away the fact that the real in-depth opinions by the real fans are all here at TTLG, where the new fans will inevitably stop by at some point. That link mentions the critics and game reviewers, but notice that the fanbase is not referenced, and that is a *huge* slice of the pie. :)

Personally, I trust gaming "journalists" about as far as I can comfortably spit out a rat.
There's a difference between a bad game and a bad Thief game. For example, Assassin's Creed may be a good game, but it's a bad Thief game.

You can't get a more honest and real opinion than that of a fan - who has played the finished product.

"End of the world" is an expression, I think you know I didn't mean it literally. I'm only saying that it's clearly serious business to you. And "where I'm getting it from" are the numerous bitter posts you make in almost every single thread in this forum.
For instance:

The game as it stands is not playable to me, and not just as a matter of preference or snobbery on my part, which is still all the detractors ever see.
They killed any F4ITH I had by 2010, and then they fixed some things, and now the list of things is too big to expect them to pull it off, especially when they are shrugging important things off with attitude. If there were no PR concerns, I'd love to hear them speak unhindered. I have about a year of hope left. Meanwhile the forums are still divided and will be even worse in 2014, whether I'm still here or not.

That's trying to inform you that my stance is about one thing not another, based in something not being acknowledged. I'm not bitter about not enjoying much coming from the entertainment industry since about 1984, and I'm far from alone, though the years vary. I'm really annoyed at people shoving mediocrity and unchecked consumerism down my throat with saccharine optimism. That's some freaky shiz and it's like being overwhelmed by zombie hordes. I've said it more than once: my problem here is with the people, not video games. The forums will suck from how little Thief 4 will have in common with the trilogy.
Of course I don't take it literally. I just don't trust your intent. I know you don't know what I'm saying, so it's highly likely what you are saying isn't something I can work with, yet.
Eat the Grand Slamwich! It's awesome!

Labeling everything you don't like 100% other people agree with as unchecked consumerism seems to be a pretty popular thing to do around here.

That's nonsense of course, but the funny thing is that you are actually doing the complete opposite of what you just described.

Well, that's lovely of you. Perhaps you shouldn't let your emotions and your secret personal stuff affect your thinking so much though. Just because everyone here isn't able decode your riddles and doesn't agree with your most fanatic opinions that you try to pass on as some Ultimate Truths, doesn't mean that we're some brainless zombies who will praise the game no matter what. Most other people are just able to see both sides of the coin, i.e. they're capable of rational thinking without some personal bias.

Perhaps one day we will all be enlightened and discover the Ultimate Truth, O' Great Thief Master. While we're waiting for that to happen, though, it would be a good start if you started making some sense at last.
