Might be time to dust off my flight stick again.
Wonder what the foot controls are like or if I can switch to K&M or what.

Somebody in the reviews was talking about switching between flight stick to K&M controls, not that I've directly seen it for myself though.

Speaking of the Steam user reviews, they're not great. Only 44% positive, with most of the complaints being about poor performance. Hmm. I'm playing Subnautica right now which I feel is filling a kinda similar niche, so I'll wait a while before picking this up, but I'd love to hear some impressions from TTLGers.

Still a mile wide and an inch deep. Fun to experience and try out a bunch of different things, but if there's one aspect of the game you really like (combat, freight, mining, exploration, etc) you'll probably get bored of it before too long.
I wouldn't compare it to Subnautica simply because it has that procedurally-generated feel where everything's very 'samey', and much of the content comes from players rather than the game. They did add some more progression-focused content a few years ago, but it is hellishly grindy to achieve.
I come back to Elite about once a year, play 10-20 hours, and then put it away. But YMMV; from what I've read you'd probably get more than me out of it if you join a clan and get invested in the player-driven stuff.

Oh I've played plenty of Elite (Horizons), and yeah I have pretty much the same relationship with it as you. It's a game I get into for a couple days a few times per year.

I liked the videos, but man the reviews are slamming ED Odyssey hard, I think even harder than No Man's Sky on its release. It's sitting at Mostly Negative right now.
