I did upgrade from the original X52 to the Pro when the Pro was first released, and yeah, I noticed a difference. The springs in the stick are definitely better, and overall build quality is higher, I found. This was years ago, I was mostly using it to play Freespace 2 and Iwar at the time, which should be somewhat similar to Elite, which I have not played myself.

I had a blast tonight scooting around in my SRV on the Dweller's moon (he's one of the engineers, and I'm getting beam laser and power distributor upgrades from him).
Learning how to use the scanner in the SRV is really fun, and you never quite know what you'll find.

Got my framerate issues more or less sorted. FPS is still pretty bad while docked for some reason, but once I'm flying it's fine.
I really don't think I can go back to just playing on my screen ever again. Everything about flying in VR is 1000% more natural and easy than on a flat screen. I went into a planetary approach on a ground station that I didn't realize wasn't dockable and was all 'that's weird, why can't I dock here' banked and flew a low circle around the place and just turned my head and looked out the right side of my cockpit to take a look and was like 'oh there's no landing pads. Okay.' and then just straightened up and left. And then I was like 'oh holy shit I just did that.' And same thing again when I broke orbit to get some distance between me and the planet to go to a base on the other side, and I went back into orbit, then flipped upside down and just looked up and out the cockpit to keep my eye on the base's HUD tag while keeping my ship more or less level in orbit until it came around the limb.
