Astronomical realism wasn't a good choice for this type of game. It sounds good on paper but it affects the gameplay flow in a big way. But going after former colleague with a libel suit isn't going to ingratiate yourself anyway.
I like trading games, and Elite type especially... I may as well mention once again my favorite game, Hardwar, is in the Elite mold with the bonus of being focused on one planet (the sheer spread of open space sort of reduced the action potential I thought). It also had multiplayer, and multiplayer works really well for this kind of game. So it's good the new version will have that. I'll be happy to see it come out. All the good space trading games are really showing their age now.

Braben FINALLY put up some prototype gameplay footage. Christ, they should've just done this in the first place and they wouldn't have gotten so many cynical reactions (and nutjobs thinking that it's just a scam to keep Frontier Developments afloat).

It's crazy all this. After a decade of 'nobody likes space games', according to publishers, all the big guns and a thousand pretenders are back
at the same time. Which is annoying as there's quite a few interesting ideas falling by the wayside in the crush to jump on the big bandwagons.
(there was bit on a recent Idle Thumbs where on of them heard exactly that from some COD fan friend of theirs. Talking about what they're looking forward to he talked about Roberts game, I think, and they guy just said "Pfft, space. Who cares about space?")
Anyway, it's not entirely clear which of the games I like the best at this point. Roberts' effort sounds more Wing Commander-ish, from memory, with instanced missions/areas and so on. But he did make Freelancer. Which is all I want really; Freelancer 2 : Fly Around And Do What The Fuck You Like. Elite seems more able to avoid MMO-ish 'early adopters get all the things'. So far anyway.
Did you fellas spot this one?

Crazy procedural one man band kind of business. Sounds familiar. Less multiplayer oriented so you/he don't need a ton of cash I suppose.

Hmmmmm. I'm already backing several projects, but both Elite (now it has the video and I've heard more about what he wants to do) and Limit Theory look worthy of my cash :/

Thanks EvaUnit02 :)
I was instantly sold concerning this game but seeing that the original Elite ship controls seems to be back in makes me look forward to it even more. :)

Muzman: Yeah, I decided to take a punt on Limit Theory.
In reality there's next to nothing on show at the moment in terms of gameplay, but it's nevertheless impressive for only a fairly short amount of part-time development. The presentation of the project is also good, and I got the impression that the guy probably does have the ability to deliver on a lot of the things he wants to have (and he obviously has the desire & motivation).
Hopefully money well-spent.

Oo cool. It's already made it as well, kickstarter wise.
What caught my eye immediately was he's using some Freelancer-esque mouse steering. Squeee!
