Finding eachother is as simple as adding you to my friends list (and vice versa; CMDR Mike Vanaheim here).
The (
http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Wings) Wiki page explains the benefits of winging up quite nicely.

Friend request sent. Does the in-game voice chat use push-to-talk? I'm asking because you might not want to listen to me controlling my ship using Voice Attack... ;)

I think there's an option for push-to-talk, but the configuration is a little confusing. It's a bit counter-intuitive from what I remember. Very cool when it does work though, thanks to the added effects.

BTW, CMDR Goddard is it? Accepted a friend invite from that CMDR :)

Yup, that's me. :)

Ace, well I'm playing at the moment, so if you're up for it, I'll gladly jump to your location.

So, how is the planetary exploration in this? Any cool stuff to see or do out there? Is the buggy fun to drive? Also can you get out of it?
All this NMS stuff I'm seeing has me hankerin for some exploration, but I'm wondering if I might be better off picking up Horizons instead.

I mainly play in VR over the weekend, primarily Fridays and Sundays; I think I'll stick to solo mode until I've upgraded to a Cobra Mk III, which shouldn't take all that much longer, and then I'll check if you're online when I'm about to play
Elite and drop you a message.

Thing is, if you wing up with me and we go RES hunting, if you even get a single hit on one of the targets we'll be taking out, you'll be entitled to an equal split of the bounty. Some of the bounties I was comfortably taking down last night were 300,000+ credits.
Just one of those would almost be enough to buy you a Cobra outright ;)
We don't have to do Open either; we can group up, which is like Solo, but with friends.

The buggy driving is very cool, although working out the binds takes some time. There's not actually that much on the planets that I've visited so far, but the act of driving alone has been enough to keep me entertained, but again, would be more fun with buddies.
No EVA yet mind you.

Are you in any of the groups, Malf? I'm intrigued by the possibilities of group play, and there seem to be some PvE-only groups like Mobius that are pretty cool.
As far as grouping up to make the big money is concerned, that's something I want to avoid, at least at this stage: I like coop play, but I wouldn't want to make easy money by having someone else, someone with more experience and better equipment, do most of the work. I'd too easily get Elite fatigue if I did that. Once I know I can hold my own sufficiently, I'd enjoy coop more.
By the way, how do you personally steer the buggy? I've heard some horror stories about driving using a HOTAS...
