I'm in trouble. Finished Reactor level after destroying the laser, took elevator to Level 3, ran to the elevator opposite to go to Level 6, only to receive a message saying "power diverted to Level "R". According to the Official Hint Book-I.C.E., there appear to be only two elevators on this level. So I'm stuck and don't know where to go next. Any advice, suggestions, etc., will be very much appreciated. pukey

Most likely you didn't in fact finish the Reactor level. Or at least the 'Destroy the Laser' mission. After using Isotope X-22 to switch the shields on in the Reactor level, then punching the laser safety override code, also in the Reactor level, you have to go back to the Research level and actually fire the laser into the shield, thus destroying it. Have you done this?
You know, for someone following not one, but two hint books, you seem to be rather distracted playing the game ;)

Hi D'Arcy: I thought I did all the right things and assumed I wouldn't be able to get the elevator to move up to level 3. In any event I'll go back and check, in particular, steps 44 and 45, the x-22 isotope procedure and finally, step 46. I know 46 was done because I heard from Shodan and saw the laser picture in the lower right MFD when I switched to "on". Thanks and I'll let you know. I sure hope that's all that's wrong. I'm mostly using the Official Hint book now, although the Bernie Lee Guide is quite comprehensive and provides more detail than the former. I don't think I'm distracted D'Arcy, just plain dumb!! pukey

If you saw that message from SHODAN, then you must have have completed the mission. Although I have no idea why you are receiving that other message when you try to use the elevator, since I don't think I've ever seen it.
Anyway, there are three elevators in the Maintenance level, if you count the one where you arrive. There's the one right ahead, leading to level 6, and the big one in the center room, which gives access to levels 4 and 5. Are you saying that you can't use neither of them?

Hi again: No, I tested the freight elevator and it works, although I didn't actually use it. Forgot to tell you in the earlier message. As to the message from Shodan, while hard to understand it doesn't come close to the message quoted in the Origin Hint Book, page 43. Maybe that's not important. I'm going back down to Reactor level because the message announcement on the elevator makes reference R level. Perhaps I missed something in steps 44 and 45, although I clearly remember doing something. Your help is appreciated D'Arcy and I will keep you informed. Will also check the freight elevator again and see what happens. pukey

I played the Reactor level again in its entirety and it appears I did all the right things, in particular, item 44, insert isotope into receptacle, flip switch and receive message that "radiation shield activated"; item 45, entered 199 code, received "safety override enabled"; finally I flipped the lever and message read "safety interlock disabled". Then I think I turned off the repulsor button on the north wall - had to jump down. Went on to Level 2 and rechecked that the laser was destroyed, message from Shodan came through, etc.
After all that I tried the elevator again and got same result, power diverted to R level. I'm completely baffled D'Arcy. Anyway, I'll fight my way through the invisible bad guys, get to the freight elevator and hope I can get from 4 or 5 up to 6. If not I'm afraid I'm permanently stuck. pukey

I'm just guessing here, but perhaps you could try destroying the CPU node in the Maintenance level, then check if the elevator becomes usable?
And don't worry. The freight elevator will give you access to levels 4 and 5, and from level 5 you can access level 6 (that's actually the way I usually play).

You've given me hope again D'Arcy, that ultimately I'll be able to get to Level 6. I destroyed the CPU node on Maintenance level but it didn't change the message from the elevator. I've done a lot of damage on Level 3 and am about to get on the elevator to level 4. Many thanks. And before I forget, a very Merry and Blessed Christmas to you and your family. pukey

D'Arcy, I'm making progress. Just finished part of Level 4, per Origin Official Hint book and ready to move to Level 6. Thank you. pukey
