Hm. Do I take you to task for declaring it irrelevant without even reading it or do I just remind you that you are Zylon Bane and that enough has been said?

Oh, right, having a differing opinion automatically makes me some mouthbreathing racist/homophobe/gun nut/filthy white capitalist/et cetera who supports Bush so on and so forth. I'm offended.
Don't be offended, pookie, I just find the thought of anyone supporting a potential "more of the same" government to be terrifying (or more of the same quickly followed by an unsurprising expiration and then hockey mom USA leadership, wow, that fucking scares the living shit out of me). You do have some interesting reasoning for voting McCain, I'll be interested to see how others more knowledgeable weigh in versus your views on Republican economics.
Isn't the problem commonly associated with Republican economics is to not tax more yet spend more (how does this EVER work) and also support a "trickle-down" model that obviously isn't working?

Why do people always talk like business tax and income tax are the same thing? They aren't are they? Nobody here with a business pays any damn income tax because they put it all back into the business, where it gets taxed differently and can call upon a squillion deductions normal workers can't get. We got these ideas from you lot. Don't tell me you don't have them anymore (it could be part of some quite interesting experimental progressiveness somewhere in Europe. Maybe. But that's it).
Anyway, my case for the end of the economy used to be pretty similar, except I would have blamed foreign investment in real estate as well as dodgy loans (which is a clue; if it's happening everywhere and everyone has a different explanation, all those explanations are probably wrong). But knowledable people tell me fairly regularly that it's derivatives that did it, more or less, not just real estate or any particular law.

A valid question. Better to go with the latter and just accept that I'm right. You'll conserve more rabid spittle that way.

eat my fuck, Scots. I'm sorely centrist and I hate everyone. I vote for whoever I think is least likely to
fuck things up. I voted for Kerry in 2004, I voted for McCain this year. I have my reasons god damn it
Yeah Scots - EAT HIS FUCK!

I'm glad Queensland has a solid veto over some of that offshore real estate investment bullshit. Is that Australia wide?

Also, very interesting series of articles from both camps.

I can't say I blame you. Sarah Palin fucking sucks. I didn't make my decision lightly, obviously. It came down to this: I assumed there was a 50% chance McCain would die in office, so it came down to a 50% chance of Palin becoming president and inevitably making things worse, or a 100% chance of Obama inevitably making things worse.
Maybe I'm wrong and Obama is more than the empty suit/party mouthpiece that he resembles. Christ, I hope I am, probably more than anybody else. I guess we'll just have to wait and see; in the meantime, I advise my fellow Americans to update their resumes, just in case.

To be perfectly honest, I don't see how a recession in some form was avoidable no matter who took office. The extent of it, of course, remains to be seen.

dethtoll, I don't have time to explain it all to you, but you have the CRA/Fannie/Freddie thing spectacularly wrong.
Those weren't the loans that exploded the housing market. The subprime loans at fault weren't issued by the banks subject to the CRA (it was independent mortgage brokers that did that) nor were they bought by Fannie/Freddie (who will only purchase loans originated in conformity with a strict criteria).
Do more research, and try to stay away from anything tainted by the pundit class when you do.

First, a few things: Obviously I don't vote party line. I don't really consider myself a libertarian though I do espouse some of their views (i.e. reduced government.)
Oh, you're a maverick! Your actions don't have to have reasonable basis's and yet you give them to us anyways!

Obama's stated intent is to "spread the wealth"
Oh, cancel that last statement. This whole wealth spreading came about solely because of that whole joe the plumber nonsense, which you profess to hate but voted for, and was pounded into the ground by McCain and Palin (who you hate but also voted for).
So you are a self hating maverick? It must have taken you forever to make your decision.
