I only just noticed that the Sounds of Skyrim article is actually part of (
http://www.gameinformer.com/p/esv.aspx) a much bigger set of articles on GameInformer, incl. a history of the Elder Scrolls, a walkthrough if Bethesda's offices and a look at the wall that featured in the trailer.

Thanks. Bethesda certainly generate more good will (with me anyway) with this solid information compared to Eidos who gave us nothing for Thief 3 and nothing for Thief 4 except a bloody tee shirt with a title on it that they say is just a working title anyway! "We give you nothing but we want you to give us something anyway for our stupid tee shirt anyway." Even the Thief 3 editor was a struggle to get. Here, Bethesda announce theirs a year ahead!!!! Good for them. I had grudgingly come to the conclusion that maybe there is some sensible business reason why Eidos give us nothing. Bethesda show that this is clearly not so.

Please restrict your Thi4f whinging to the Thief forums where it belongs.

So I was lovingly staring at that picture RPS has up of Skyrim just a little while ago, getting all ready to spank one out to it, when I noticed something...

http://users.chartertn.net/greymatt/skyrum.jpg...sheer cliff walls. Overhangs. In an Elder Scrolls title. Whoaaaa.
With little paths on the various levels of said sheer cliff walls. Usually you only see landscapes like that in a Piranha Bytes game. Maybe this means they've finally ditched the lumpy landscape generator for real, hand crafted, properly 3D cliffs, valleys, and mountains.

Actually, that's a nice catch, hope you're right about it being a sign of more hand crafted environments. But what I'd really like to see change with Beth's terrain is those god-awful clamp-to-walkmesh mechanics. Oblivion and Fallout 3 had the most horrendous movement systems I can recall in recent gaming history, picky about when you could jump, what you could jump on, from where you could jump on it, those moronic 3cm tall rocks that the character would get stuck into and general navigation of an inclined plane. Seriously, I don't remember things being this bad with any other game since Ultima IX. Maybe there were some, but they just never left a strong enough impression of it I guess.
On an almost unrelated note - they can talk about "new tech" all they want, I don't have a single chance in hell to see seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, do I?

I'd found another reference (on Gamespot) to the Creation Kit being included with Skyrim. Color me excited! :thumb:

I hope to God there's missions like the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion.
Whodunit was my favorite quest in the entire game.

Yeah, I was rather disappointed that the Dark Brotherhood quests were the best quests in the game, and often more thief-like than the actual Thieves Guild quests. Of course, they were written by an ex-LGSer.
Let's hope that all the quests in Skyrim are of that quality.
