What a putz. What did he want, his hand held and a cookie? Run your company, you dink! This was the time for you, Mr. D'Astous, to show courage and strength, and to find the ingenuity and creativity to proceed in doing your job and running your division; not tucking your tail between your legs and boo-hooing like a little bitch with a skinned knee.
I have no love for D'Astous, but I would have respect for someone who doesn't buckle and quit because they suddenly feel like a redheaded stepchild. Seriously--grow a pair.
Sounds more like a polite way of saying he disagrees with Square Enix. Nothing putzy about that. Takes more guts to stand up for what you believe in and walk away from a high paying position than to sit tight, collect your pay and say nothing. Sounds like his 'pair' are big enough to me.

I was expecting something like that.. sad but true..
..curious that the guy who said ''thief, it's like a diamond.. you need time to build it properly'' is the one who left at the final stage of the development.
Btw i expect, obiviously hope not, some other twits during the rest of the year.
I repeat: the concept of this game is wrong just from the beginning.. and the worst thing is that now you cannot fix it anymore.
They should end this project asap and fire it out. that's all.

I second sterlino. 'the concept of this game is wrong just from the beginning..... and the worst thing is that now you cannot fix it anymore.'
I have absolutely NO sympathy for D'Astous whatsoever; not after the thinly veiled disparaging inferences he made regarding die-hard Thief fans as well as the original Thief games. And especially NOT after the way he's allowed the mangling of T4 to the point that it resembles nothing more than a trainwreck. Nope; no sympathy whatsoever. I think a lot of us saw this coming after reading that Squeenix was dissatisfied with the length of time T4 was taking in development (I mean, 10 MONTHS to create a demo? Really?) and it was predictable that heads were going to roll if EM couldn't start picking up the pace. Time is money, afterall.
Who knows? Maybe the new kids will add even more kewl aspects to T4, such as a mini-canon-crossbow that fires arrows like a semi-automatic rifle and steampunk-style off-road vehicles for NuGarrett to use while escaping the NuCity Watch.
:p

Damn. It's been all downhill for Square Enix lately hasn't it? Tomb Raider selling under expectations. DX only getting Director's Cut and iPad edition in lieu of a proper sequel. IO Interactive facing lay-offs and being consigned to being a Hitman factory.
It's a shame because Square Enix has been behind some great productions during the past few years. DXHR, Sleeping Dogs, Tomb Raider. Hell, I'm playing Hitman Absolution right now, and having a good time with it.
The games are solid, just a shame they can't make the business side of it go together.

Still not clear whether his departure has much impact on this thief project. I suspect not.
His departure might not impact Thief much, but the irreconcilable differences that lead up to it may well have...

For the record, TR selling 3,5 million units and being 'not a success' is ridiculous in terms of expectations, especially when you think how play-it-safe and uninspired this game is. And IO hardly ever done anything good except Hitman, so that's no surprise. Kane & Lynch 2 anyone?

They need to learn how to focus on making games, rather than making a huge spectacle of themselves with costumes and props. I don't know how this game will ever make a profit with the number of years invested in it already.

And it's not like it sold 3.5 million, total. It was 3.5 million in it's
first month of release, which is insanely good. That month being the last of its quarter was what ended up turning it into a disappointment. If it had released a month later, it probably would've been viewed as a success, since it wouldn't have been trying to make up for everything else that missed that quarter, and it wouldn't have had the 'it's a disappointment' press depressing its sales after the first month.

Yes, of course. I didn't mean to imply anything about the past.
