Indeed. For me the original Unreal editor always crashed even before starting up. I could never get it to run on my old PC, no matter what I did.

They released a patched version of UnrealEd for that - I remember downloading it on the University computers some time in '99 and putting it on a single 1.44MB floppy to take home...

Funny thing is I've been working on a map for Raven Shield this whole time, and the editor hasn't even crashed yet (it's the same unrealed), but I try to even select a brush in T3ed and bam...

Yeah, that editor could be compared to DromEd in terms of reliability and stability.

The engine was so heavily modified that there isn't much of actual unreal left - the only similarity is the interface and basic BSP work.
