i have bit of a problem i cant turn on eax in thief the option is inactive. Running on win 7, soundcard SB audigy. i reamember i could set eax just inside game and now i cant do it. What i can do is turn overall eax effect though creative control panel but its peramanent like for the whole system and then every app uses it /like players/, i can also chose the effect like concert hall and other preset but i dont want that to work this way. I only want to use eax inside thief. What is eaven more funny, that's when i did enabled eax effect through the sb control panel i still cant click on eax setting inside the game. Anyone has the idea how to handle this problem it really annoys me.

patch up through the sticky topics, get openal, and you should be set.

i have new dark installed already now i have installed openal still cant turn it in the game through audio settings eax settings still in white color should i try it when i have an fm installed or on the original game ok its working now i have overlooked the posibillity of change in hardware acc setting.

click on hardware acceleration until openal is selected.

You need to use Creative's alchemy program. Open alchemy and add thief to it. Once you do that you'll be able to use EAX or OpenAL.

Nonsense, Alchemy isn't needed anymore since the inofficial patch. voodoo47's instructions are correct.

Neither OpenAl or EAX were selectable for me until I used Alchemy.

Alchemy might still be needed because of the way Win7 interacts with your soundcard, but you should just use openAL and then eax, works for me, with eax only the game hangs (on an Asus Xonar DG)
