Oh. He left.
Well that was nice.

Oh, come
on You know, I hadn't bothered to go and check the original source.
Neither had I.
And FWIW, I think EM is taking feedback into account and changing elements of the game based on it. Maybe not enough and maybe it's too late to fix some things like the VA decision and perhaps the inclusion of lore in more important ways, but providing the switchable options seems to me to be almost certainly because of feedback from the community.

It's far from too late to change the Voice Actor decision. Plenty of time.

Maybe, but I think they'd have to change the way they've written Garrett as well, and because of that, it might make them have to rewrite the plot, too. The personality of NuGarrett doesn't match TruGarrett's personality.

That shows how much they care about the fans. They might change a few things, but the most important stuff, what most people want, they don't care.

Not gonna happen at this point. They've made it loud and clear they're not gonna listen to what the fans really want.

Yeeeaaaah, if you expect me to be on duty 24/7, you're gonna have a bad time. It's not like I have a 12 hour a day job and am working overtime right now to post this or anything :p

It is.

I know this is a touchy subject and I don't want to open a can of worms here, but the decision to change VA's has been made. The reasoning behind it have been explained already, and while I'm sure some of you might disagree there is just nothing more personally that I can offer you on this without being redundant. I hope you'll respect my candor on this. All I can say is that I've passed the feedback on to the team and they're aware.

We're listening - that's why I'm here. Like I said above, I'll try to post here more often so you guys know that I'm around. I absolutely sympathize with you guys, I love Stephen Russell as well, but beating our collective heads together just won't be productive for any of us.

Tell EM to put some Hammerites, Pagans, and Keepers in the game. They don't have to be crucial to the plotline, but they need to be there. Maybe a few Hammers secretly allied with the Graven, a Pagan or two keeping an eye on things for the Woodsie folk, and maybe a confused Keeper trying to figure out their role in the City now. Traces of the old factions like paintings, statues, books, etc. are just not enough.

Considering the vastness of Unreal engine know-how in this world, combined with a Thief community so dedicated they release professional quality fan generated patches to the previous Thief games 13 years after the fact, something tells me the mod community would be alright even if a level editor is not supported out of the box.
OK, but keep in mind the guy/girl/team who came up with NewDark more than likely had access to the leaked Thief source code from a couple of years ago. Unless EM has some plans to provide
that to the community (I know, I know), it's going to be pretty tough to come up with an editor or anything else similar that would allow authors to create fan missions or any kind of serious modifications to the game.
Someone else mentioned an editor in the form of DLC - that might be a crazy idea for most communities, but I think for this one it could actually work. Sure, we'd prefer to have it free, but I think most FM authors realize there's a significant amount of work that is required to get editing tools up and running for the general public.

Seriously, I was personally blown away by the dark patch - Never managed to personally chat with the creators, but my hat is off to them.
Err, yeah, well of course, no one has. It was released anonymously.

Thanks for replying.
I understand you were late coming into the project. I don't envy your position. There is just too much bad water at this point and EM won't be earning back my purchase. They've gone to great lengths to please people who have probably never heard of Thief. People who wouldn't know a Hammerite from a stalactite. We're supposed to be excited by a game that has a threadbare connection to the one we've worked hard to keep alive all these years. I think they underestimated the community and it's love of the game's history and our love of Stephen Russell. Without him voicing Garrett, I wish they had created a new character and just been done with it.
