Aww look at us backing each other up. Lovely.
No, actually quite disturbing. Get rid of one EM PR mouthpiece and three more appear. Yep. Disturbing, to say the least.

As for us all turning up at the same time: no, it isn't coincidence. I talk to the other guys on Skype fairly often - in a friendly capacity and nothing else, before anyone questions it - and someone noticed that B1skit had started posting on here. We came over, saw the responses and wanted to add our own two cents. That's it!
Actually, it sounds more like someone called for 'back-up'. 'Our own two cents'? I believe that statement should've read 'EM's two cents'. Look, I'm all for free speech, etc., but you need to understand that as far as some of us are concerned, we aren't going to believe the EM hype, so take it back to EM Forums instead of coming over here with the contrived explanation of wanting to 'answer questions' and then proceeding to try & shove more EM rainbows and unicorns up our collective arses. And managing to come across as condescending asshats in the process, mind you. It's one thing to answer our questions concerning NuThief gameplay, graphics, etc., but quite another when you start spouting EM PR that we've already heard and didn't believe the first time. Save it for your EM Forums. Please.
I'm already sick to death of seeing you label those of us who're already less than pleased with NuThief as 'misguided'; I mean, really, could you get any more condescending if you tried? You're pissing up a rope in trying to defend EM to more than a few of us in this forum, you know. I'm rather surprised that the lot of you haven't been banned for outright soliciting.

It's very sensible. The most positive comments about the demo are coming from people who are directly associated with Eidos. It doesn't matter that they aren't paid employees, they are moderators. And because of that, they potentially stand to gain or lose based on what they say. My apologies to you, I know you're the odd man out here Ashpolt, but I think if you look at it objectively from our point of view, you should understand how the whole thing looks more than a little crooked. Even if they're all being 100% truthful, it still
looks questionable. Especially considering the contradictory opinions on the web from all the non-Eidos people.
Just like it looks a little odd that suddenly, out of the blue, you, b1skit, and skyhopping have all decided to start posting here in the last 3-4 days, defending EM. Just coincidence, right?
Nope. No coincidence. More like invasion.
We are
not amused.

You go sister! Now let's get those pitchforks and torches and drive those infidels out of this town!
... or not. :p
What I do find disturbing is that some people seem to get so angry over a game that hasn't even been released yet, and here we are arguing with each other (hey, we're all supposed to be Thief fans here) which is a bit sad in my opinion.

You're complaining about bans and deleted posts, and then you say something like this? Censorship is a wonderful thing when it goes your way, huh?

You are being quite rude, but I'm guessing that was your intention. I'm here because I want to be here, and because I care about the series, and the wider community. I want to share the extra bit of information that I've got. EM aren't paying me, it is a Sunday afternoon during my summer holiday from University and I'm here because I want to be. Honestly, what else could I possibly be gaining by doing this?
Also- whether this says good things or bad- we're all pretty matey with one another, we talk quite regularly on Skype. Some of us thought we'd expend the effort to get involved here together, so no! Not a coincidence. Most certainly a sinister invasion.

Knock yourself out, sweetie. Afaic, your opinions and 'information' sharing are worth exactly what they're costing us. We already know why you & your EM friends are here. Your motives are actually very transparent. Have fun, but don't let the door hit you in the arse on your way out.

I'm not going to make the mistake of assuming that everyone here thinks what you think. Hit the ignore button (is there an ignore button here?) if you don't want to listen to me anymore.
Right. Glad we've cleared that up, let's move on.

Just wondering: if Thief 4 had not disappointed you in any way and you were looking forward to it, would you be as hostile to the EM moderators? Because in that reality, their motives and role as you suspect them to be, would not be any different, they'd still be biased, covertly employed, and trying to drum up positivity for the game, and if you were to be consistent you'd still be scorning them for their motives in those circumstances as well. Or is it only nefarious when it's on the behalf of a game you disapprove of?
I prefer to take a more reserved stance. I don't know them or the truth of the situation, I have suspicions but I'm not a mind-reader. And I really don't care under what capacity they operate, independent or no. It doesn't really have any effect on the state that the game is in. I believe Adam and others when they say they're listening to the existing fan-base, but I also know that we're only one tree on the branch, and they've got a lot of other low hanging fruit to consider.
I disagree very strongly with some decisions they've made, I'd even go as far as to say some of the developers' statements have angered me or I have contempt for, although I try to see it from their side as well, and I also realize the impotence of my situation in trying to change certain things. All I can hope to do is say firmly (and politely, if I expect to be heard) what I think and then just wait and see.

Brother Tomi, I have the supply of pitchforks and torches you requested. Now, round up Brother Renzatic and anyone else we can recruit. If jtr was here, he would know what to do.

There are a couple of relaxed and cautious, yet serious Thief fans on this planet. Just saying. Sometimes I feel sorry for them because their concerns might get disregarded when lunatics overemphasize them and get rejected as...well... lunatics in return.
So, for what it's worth, hand me my pitchfork and let's pitchfork those concerns.

I'm nothing but skeptical, here's a recent example. Your mod mateys get everyone nice and frothy about that "painting moment", I mean, really laying it on thick and then you rudely shot down an inquiry about the painting moment. Downright (

Hyping up the painting moment...

The hands are here to stay as they are extremely important to characterization of Garrett. There was a moment in our playthrough where the five of us all looked at each other with a "That was awesome" look on our face that we have come to name "The Painting Moment." More detail on that later.

Holy crap, yes we did. There was something that we are all calling "The Painting Moment" that may have been the coolest moment in the entire demonstration and later playthrough.

Overall I was very impressed with the game. In the entire hour there was a single two-second QTE and it was the low point of the demo. TBH, they could have removed the TP climbing section from the demo and it wouldn't have substantially suffered for it, IMO.
Those things aside it was genuinely brilliant, especially The Painting Moment. More on that soon.

We're reluctant to talk about it because we're all thinking of how to put it into words to give it justice. Seeing it is far more powerful than describing it, and the Painting Moment was one of the single coolest examples of characterization through world building game mechanics I've seen in a long time.
Then you come along...

Don't get overly hyped about the "Painting Moment" that we've been going on about, there are other explanations about it in this thread if you look. As Ashpolt said, it's not a big feature. It was a lovely moment (as in, like 2-3 seconds) where we all felt great about a feature in the game. There was nothing corny or grandiose about it, it was just a small, golden touch to gameplay that we hadn't expected.

http://www.reactiongifs.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/TomsMindBlown.gifWTF man? Yes, MT eventually revealed the Painting Moment but seriously, I can only imagine how Rockn-Roll would have felt with a response like that from you. I can completely understand where Dia is coming from, it's hard not to see the intention of your presence over here, linking to the EM forums, encouraging us to post over there so there is more control for you guys. If we are "misguided", who is at fault?

Rudely shot it down? I'm re-reading my post and I can't see that: I don't think this guy would have taken any offence or "felt" bad when he saw my response. All I was trying to do was to manage expectations, there was no manipulation or underhand plotting involved, I can assure you. I haven't got the inclination or the energy for that sort of thing. We all have our own minds about the subject, and I was worried that people may have been disappointed when they found out about what it was once we hyped it up.
But I apologise anyway if it came across that way in that context, and further apologies if hype over "the painting moment" confused people or muddied the waters. It was something really good about the game.
