While it's completely ridiculous that we have to grovel and beg to have Stephen Russell in the game in the first place, (his inclusion should not have even been questioned), if something like this were to happen, a fan service sound pack if you will, it might even turn me around. If the game was good enough, and Stephen's voice offered as a fan pack, I could get behind that. Perhaps pass that along to the devs and bean counters at Eidos. ;) We really do want Stephen Russell back.
Also needs 'classic Garrett' costume dlc. ;)

I know I keep harping on at you, but being excited by feedback does not at all imply that said feedback is positive.
*Sputter* :wot:
Uhm...
yes, it does! What the frick planet are you from?
When someone shouts, "Wheeeeee!" in a gleeful tone, you imagine them with their arms in the air, riding a roller coaster. Said utterance tends not to spring to mind when seeing someone forcing their genitals into the path of an oncoming steamroller.
One does not get exuberant over negative feedback, even "constructive criticism." Best case is that someone is mature enough to accept it without throwing a fit. Excitement, on the other hand, is generated by the warm-n-fuzzy stuff. Y'know, positive. Good=nice, negative=sucks. Not exactly rocket science, here. Someone that jumps up and down, raving about how thrilled they are, while describing how their sister just got assaulted in an alley, should be tossed in a rubber room. This includes game devs who refer to themselves as "excited," when, according to some, they're referencing horrible, awful feedback that's come to hurt the Führer.
Dammit. Now I've gotta go watch Wizards again, and it's late.

*Disclaimer: I posted a few cheap shots at the old Thiaf logo. But I think that's fair enough!
I miss that logo now. A happier time when I didn't know some things I now know. Thi4f was to be a legendary game (in my mind).

From a planet where I and many people I've had the pleasure to work with have been very happy to have light shed on products they've worked on for months in the dark? It's a shame you haven't worked in a situation where you can feel completely free to give and take criticism freely. I really enjoy the experience.

That's not the only negative thing he says...he also makes some sarcastic comments about the AI not being very aware, and suggests the combat is not particularly difficult...comments that are echoed in the RPS article.
But go and look at the comments about the AI: you'll see they can pretty much all be explained by dark areas looking too light. As for combat, yeah, that's true, but we've also heard different reports. Still, combat was the main reason I changed "for the complaints" to "for the majority of complaints" before posting ...
LATE EDIT: Oh, and I understand you're not going out and finding every single complaint you can. But my last paragraph is not just my overall impression of the pages you linked to: I do think that "light darkness" and the bridge section can explain the vast majority of the negative statements given in relation to the E3 demo.

The only negative thing the vg article says is that the dark areas looked to bright. EM E3 players: did you ask the devs about that at any point?
I'll answer this briefly here, but to answer any more questions about the demo head over to the (
http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=138032&page=19) official Q&A thread. I know this isn't convenient for everyone, and ideally I'd like to answer questions about the demo here too, but I don't want to undermine EM's efforts to bring more people over the the EM boards.
Yes, the dark areas did seem too light: I mentioned this too in a (
http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpost.php?p=1930436&postcount=359) small breakdown I posted recently. That's not a very detailed breakdown at all, but I plan to do a full write up when work for the start of this week is all over. As for mentioning it to the devs, I didn't explicitly mention it to them at the time, but we've been given feedback from b1skit that many of the team members have been reading the Q&A, so it's quite possible they saw my feedback there in the thread. It seems like a visual hiccup that would be easy enough to tweak- or perhaps it was just down to the brightness on the screens we played on.

Have we? Has anyone who played the game said positive things about combat (other than quoting what the devs say about it)?
But anyway, this is a bit of a side-trail.
My original question was "why should we trust the glowing reports of the EM mods when there are so many negative responses?"
The responses I got were basically, "I haven't seen that many negative comments from people who played the game." (a response that also raises my skepticism, as they aren't hard to find).
Now that I've provided a bunch of links, I'm back to the original question.
