From that article,
Quote:
Let’s also ponder the implication that the majority of Garrett’s lines will now, apparently, be delivered while he’s performing feats of circus athleticism. “Lord Bafford” (hops off table, leaps to hanging banner and wall-runs up to balcony) “it seems that your sceptre” (dives across to chandelier, swings to rafters) “has been … inter-scepted” (tosses firebomb, flips Bafford the bird, backflips out of window.)
LOL

This looks nothing like the original character! Christopher Nolan's Batman my ass! Also, what's up with the hopping!? In the original games, Garrett never moved like this! This game officially sucks now!

Actually, I heard that they wanted to please the fans of the original games, so they decided to add the "speed hopping" from TDP into the new game.

People, people, calm down. If you've been around both forums (TTLG and EM) as long as I have (combined 9.5 years), and can properly identify and deal with reality, you wouldn't be getting so riled up. Breathe.....1..........2...........3. There ya go.
They don't speak too highly of this site over at EM, and vice versa. Accept it. Deal with it. It's how it's supposed to be. You simply don't praise the competition.
There is a bit more freedom here, but just a bit. I've gotten my share of closed accounts, bans, and called the "T" word 1000s of times from both sites. However, it's a much more close-knit community here. If you don't fit in the clique, you get ripped to shreds on a daily basis. They are much more civil at EM, but if you lean towards the negative side, you'll get infraction after infraction. Why? Helllllloooooo, it should be clear. You're playing in EM's back yard, and they don't like people coming into their backyard and thrashing it. 5 accounts and 500+ infractions later, I know. Trust me.
If you get bored easily and have tons of free time on your hands, you can check the post history of the mods at EM. You'd be hard pressed to ever, ever, ever.......did I say ever....yes I did, find a negative post from any, any, any EM mod. Ever! Any! Any and ever. Ever and any. By using simple logic, deduction, and inductive reasoning, there is only 1 conclusion: The mods at EM were on the payroll from day one (plants). Happens all the time on message boards across the world. Insert company man/woman to shill the game. Now, by payroll, it can mean compensation or perks instead of monetary payout. B1skit admitted that EM paid all expenses for the mods to go to L.A. for E3.
It defies the odds that of all the posts made by mods over there, not even one was negative. Oh sure, you’ll see: “I really didn’t like the look of Garrett’s hands, but it’s still in pre-alpha.” Or, “I’m not a fan of rope arrow hotspots, but I’m very glad EM brought the rope arrow back.” Vanilla……..pure vanilla. But, you can’t blame the mods one bit. Would you bite the hand that feeds you? Marketing 101. Never bite the hand that feeds you. Ever see a glowing 10 out of 10 star review for a game that ended up to be a flop? Marketing 101, boys and girls. Just ask Jeff Gerstmann about that.
Here at TTLG, as I pointed out, 40% of the members are really not that into Thief. It blows my mind that a site devoted to Thief has so many detractors. Check out the poll of people who will not buy the game. 40%. 4 out of 10 people here are frauds…..or to sugar coat it, fair weather fans. I say “fraud” because this site is supposed to be “Hardcore Thief.” This site is where the True Thief Fans hang out. 40% of the people here are not the people I ever want to have an in depth conversation with about the game. And the other 60% are so closed minded that you can’t have a conversation about Thief. At least over at EM you can engage is some vanilla, sugar coated, extremely moderated debates. But you better be prepared for a few infractions if you do.
And this should come as no surprise. It must be accepted. I’d delete posts too (as they do over at EM) if I found one being too critical of the game. I’d ban members who even question why their post got deleted (as the do over at EM) because their TOU says you cannot question moderator actions. Heck, I got a one week ban because I pointed out that 2 of the mods that went to E3 had differing conclusions about hotspots, and was banned because I was playing “Gotcha” and that was considered “flaming” the mods. I sure as hell don’t want people disparaging my product (whether it be the game or the mods), so I agree with EM‘s stance.
Accept and respect that EM is owning the new Thief game. Hell, with all the fan missions out there, don’t you have enough “old-school” Thief to satisfy you? Thief 4 will no doubt be a shadow of the previous games, but that’s 21st century gaming for ya. But we should all be thankful to have a professionally developed Thief game on the horizon.

Perhaps my username should be thiefhopping.

You shipped a bunch of moderators who were already in-the-tank for the game, and aggressively defending it on the EM forums before they'd seen minute #1 of gameplay, handed them some perks and special passes... and you want
anyone at all to accept the premise that their positive impression of the game is trustworthy?

I don't frequent the official boards enough to know, but - so it wasn't just that they were mods, but they were also "talking up" the game before the were picked to go play it? Well, it seems like EM stacked their own deck very nicely.
Just wanted to jump on to say that this is flat-out false. I don't think I'd posted much of my opinion on Thief either way - positive or negative* - prior to E3. And I'm fairly sure Spyhopping was the same.
I understand that you guys aren't happy about what you've seen of the game so far, and that's fair enough - misguided, I feel, but it's your opinion. Making baseless and provably wrong accusations like this though just weakens the strength of any valid concerns you might have. Keep it sensible.
*Disclaimer: I posted a few cheap shots at the old Thiaf logo. But I think that's fair enough!

Aww look at us backing each other up. Lovely. I'm just going to quote myself here because it seemed relevant to above (what I think are badly informed) opinions about how EM selected us for E3.

I really wouldn't say I aggressively defended the game before I saw any gameplay at all. That makes about as much sense as someone being hugely negative about it: and if that is something I've been doing then someone please tell me so I can give myself a slap. My activity over on the official boards before E3 was mainly exasperation over people writing off the game before they knew anything substantial about it, and trying to keep up the morale. I care about this series, and I don't want to see it burn: I want EM to do well, and for people to get the right information about the game so that they can give the devs informed feedback. I do think b1skit hits the nail on the head- some of this ranting does appear to be down to misinformation.

It's very sensible. The most positive comments about the demo are coming from people who are directly associated with Eidos. It doesn't matter that they aren't paid employees, they are moderators. And because of that, they potentially stand to gain or lose based on what they say. My apologies to you, I know you're the odd man out here Ashpolt, but I think if you look at it objectively from our point of view, you should understand how the whole thing looks more than a little crooked. Even if they're all being 100% truthful, it still
looks questionable. Especially considering the contradictory opinions on the web from all the non-Eidos people.
Just like it looks a little odd that suddenly, out of the blue, you, b1skit, and skyhopping have all decided to start posting here in the last 3-4 days, defending EM. Just coincidence, right?

When b1skit said people weren't being banned for having negative views about the game, he's misleading people. He's giving misinformation himself. During the first four years of the forums, quite a few people were banned temporarily or permanently if they were negative.
And let's not forget how they consistently delete threads and posts with links to our SR petition.
