OK, but you have to admit, no matter what your attendees say (truth or not), it always going to look slightly suspicious since 4 of the 5 are moderators on the official boards. I know, I know - they're not paid, they're fans just like us, they put in hundreds of hours etc - but I'm talking about appearances here. I really think EM should have picked some more of the "general population" to view the demo - at least have a makeup of 50/50 moderators to regular users.
I disagree. You would have been even more suspicious if suddenly people you'd never even heard of were suddenly being billed as 'key community members'.
These guys have a history and have been around for years. I needed to be 100% certain that their experience would benefit the rest of the Thief/Deus Ex community when they returned, and these guys were selected because I was absolutely confident that they knew their stuff and would be dedicated and articulate enough to clearly share what they had seen.
There is no elaborate conspiracy here. People work hard, good things happen - it's just how I think it should be.

Here's a suggestion, pick a volunteer from this board, someone we trust the opinion of who has been around for a while, and have them do a playtest, preferably someone who thus far has been very negative, try and change their minds by putting their hands on the controls.
We couldn't really argue with their opinions afterwards could we.
If the game is as good as it's being advertised then that should kill any negativity on this board.
If EM is willing to fly a bunch of people to E3, then a local playtest should be a doddle.

ISA brought Digi in to look at thief 3: (
http://www.thief-thecircle.com/thief3/danspreview.asp) http://www.thief-thecircle.com/thief3/danspreview.asp. I don't recall that making an enormous difference to Thief 3's reception in the long run, but then, I don't remember those days in any detail, so I could be wrong ...
Still, it couldn't hurt, and might help.

I would recommend Brethren for a balanced judgement, but I dont recall him being one of the most negative people here. From a pure fanatics point of view, we must send Vae. :ebil:

I've got plenty of community activities planned between now and release. Don't forget, everybody will have a chance to play the game at the big shows soon as well - send whoever you want :)

Understood. But I think we'd have received the same level of heat from the hardcore crowd if we'd gone that way as well.
EM might have gotten some heat for not having Garrett as a playable character, but I can guarantee you that EM would have gotten
a lot more slack as far as the design of the character, the equipment, the movement, the skills, the story and the voice actor were concerned.
Right now, it feels as if EM is rebooting a character that didn't need rebooting.

You're in the minority on this one, I'm afraid. I've not heard anybody complain about them who has played the game - focus tests, media or anybody who had hands on at E3. There is no option to toggle them - besides reasons of body awareness, they're also a visual queue that Garrett is crouching instead of a HUD icon.
Wait, what? Why would you need a HUD icon to show that Garrett is crouching?

As a response to b1skit(and possibly the team at Eidos Montreal), did you lot even play through the original games properly at all, or stop to consider what the actual fanbase wants in a new Thief game and not what your cursed focus groups want, who only aim to make gaming even more boring and bland to consumers that aren't fans of shooters and killing things? Because I'm pretty sure no one asked for Stephen Russell to be replaced with another dull gravely voiced actor as Garrett(like we don't have enough of those types of voices in games these days:nono:), third-person stealth kills, QTEs, XP rewards for killing enemies, focus mode, being able to easily defend yourself against guards when you're spotted or having all the iconic factions of the series removed, just to name a few major complaints.
I understand this is a reboot and many things are bound to change, but I never expected to see such a outright disrespectful take towards this franchise and the way you've been treating actual fans who have even the slightest bit of negative criticism towards your product, ends with them being banned from your own forums. This has left me with nothing but a bitter and disgusted taste in my mouth:tsktsk: And yet, you still expect us to support you after all that? Well, I'm not going to tolerate this atrocious behaviour any more and will just take my money elsewhere. I may rent Thief Reboot at some point, but I definitely know for sure that I won't be one of the customers who will be lining up to get this abomination of a game.
Sincerely,
A Disappointed Fan:nono:

Y'know, for months I've been on the same horrified boat over this, but recently stumbled across something that could give rise to hope by way of example. War of the Roses: Kingmaker, a game published by Paradox, received the single coolest DLC of all time, one that I jumped on immediately and shouted, "take my money, dammit!" They recorded an alternate audio package featuring Brian Blessed, overwriting the existing narrator, and released it as an optional DLC for just a few bucks. It was a brilliant move and easily put more, and well deserved, money in their pockets.
I tell you now that if you did this with Stephen, we'd buy it by the truckload. Want proof? Go ahead, set up a poll or petition somewhere, then start taking bets on how quickly the server will crash.
While it's completely ridiculous that we have to grovel and beg to have Stephen Russell in the game in the first place, (his inclusion should not have even been questioned), if something like this were to happen, a fan service sound pack if you will, it might even turn me around. If the game was good enough, and Stephen's voice offered as a fan pack, I could get behind that. Perhaps pass that along to the devs and bean counters at Eidos. ;) We really do want Stephen Russell back.
