I've not even watched the entire PS VR footage of Psychonauts: Rhombus of Ruin yet and I'm already thinking whether I should seriously consider PS VR (and, as a result, possibly the PS4 4K upgrade). I just love the world, characters and style of Psychonauts. Obviously I won't go and preorder anything based on a few minutes of pre-alpha footage, but there is a little voice inside me that goes, "Wanna wanna wanna...!"

Well I was trying my best to avoid any E3 news until I'd watched all the conferences for myself, the last of which I caught up on this morning. Just going to reel off a few thoughts from memory:
- Quake Champions: It's back, baby! Quake was my first ever FPS so I do have a lot of fondness for it - I'm glad to see the series return. Having said that though, I've never been a multiplayer person. Of course Quake 3 and Quake Wars both had single player options, so even if they do something along those lines again that will be absolutely fine by me. They didn't mention anything about single player during the conference though, so we'll have to wait and see. I think the decision of whether I get the game or not is all going to hinge on that announcement.
- Titanfall 2: Along the same lines as Quake Champions, single player Titanfall? I am all over that like mud on a pig! Grapples look like an interesting addition. Not totally convinced on whether your Titan having a personality is the right way to go but time will tell.
- Dishonored 2: Looking more interesting every time I see it, very excited for that game. I like the addition of the pocket watch that let's you jump back and forward in time. That isn't a new concept in gaming (I remember seeing footage of some Heroes Reborn game a while back that revolved around the exact same mechanic) but it's certainly intriguing. My only concern at the moment is that they're spending so much time focusing on Emily gameplay that Corvo seems to be getting overlooked - her abilities seem so versatile that I just hope he doesn't seem underpowered by comparison.
- Prey: This one... I'm really not sure about right now. I still find myself pining for the old Prey 2. That was at least remotely linked to the original Prey, this doesn't seem remotely related at all other than the name. From what I've read they're considering it as a "reimagining of the IP" - should it even be called Prey at all? Right now I'm just feeling disappointment. I know that short trailer isn't much to go on so I'll try and reserve further judgement until I see more but, make no mistake, I think I am going to need to see and know a lot more before this one will convince me.
Horizon: Zero Dawn: Not much to say here at the moment other than it is a definite buy for me. I'm loving everything about what I'm seeing here!
Recore: Finally got a glimpse at some gameplay, it's not looking too bad. Interestingly the new trailer was introducing the different robots like they were completely separate characters, and the title shot at the end has now been changed so a lot of them have different coloured orbs. No hint of what last year's reveal trailer showed with the concept of transferring one robot's "soul" from one body into another - have they done away with that approach altogether now? That's the impression it was giving me anyway.
Serious Sam VR: Heh, could be a laugh at any rate. During the announcement of that I was wondering if this is what Serious Sam 4 had turned into, which made me hesitant. Good thing I skimmed through the post-show afterwards though, as they confirmed it's a separate thing from SS4 which is still coming. Good news!
Oh out of time, or I'll be late for work. In closing I'll just say that I also enjoyed Warren Spector's speech at the end of the PC Gaming Show. Good on you Mr Spector for bringing home the message that PC gaming is far from dead!

Well, when Pete Hines talked about the essence of the Prey franchise yesterday on(
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJtZIwtgnoY#t=2m36s) Gameslice & (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TytZ50hX4Uc) IGN here's what he said.
Quote:
"Prey is about aliens and being hunted." - Pete Hines
It's a lose-lose situation for everyone involved except Zenimax. In no universe did Arkane want their System Shock reboot attached to the Prey licence or the (
http://www.develop-online.net/interview/life-after-prey-2-how-human-head-recovered-from-cancellation/0205225) series creators want to throw away years of work, scrap a nearly complete game, to avoid Bethesda's attempts to buy their 14 year old studio through (
www.ign.com/articles/2013/06/05/what-went-wrong-with-human-heads-prey-2) milestone abuse. The only one's who come out clean are the guys at Bethesda who have mismanaged the Prey licence for 7 years.
For me the big takeaway is that Human Head is a team defined by the tenacity of it's co-founders. The dudes who made Hexen, Heretic, Rune, Prey, Prey 2 and (briefly) Daikatana 2. Games are a brutal business that isn't kind, but they keep their heads (no pun intended) down and find ways to keep going (19 years now!).
While it's a bit disingenuous to call Arkane Austin the team that made Dishonored considering the majority of the staff joined in the last two years, I'm sure their game will be good. It's a shame they couldn't get the (
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=188410322&postcount=286) SS licence. However, I can guarantee you Prey won't be worth all the pain its caused and Human Head's game deserved to see the light of day.

The new Legend of Zelda looks great. I really hope the finished product is as influenced by Shadow of the Colossus and Journey as the trailer suggests! That would be excellent!
Best of all, no Navi! The less hand holding the better. Also evidently there will be very few NPCs scattered throughout the world. Good! The narrative in TP and SS was downright obtrusive.

It'll be on PC too, as MS has their new dual platform thing going on.
Dual platform thing? Do tell.
It flashed up "XBOX exclusive" at the start, so I assumed that was that.
Renault on 15/6/2016 at 14:13
Sounds like going forward, they're pushing for Windows/Xbox compatibility, so every game released on one platform will automatically be available on the other and vice versa. Multiplayer will be playable between the two as well. And if you buy a game on one, you get access to the other free of charge.

After reading that article though, it does say "select games." I did see somewhere though that State of Decay 2 will be both Xbox & PC.
henke on 15/6/2016 at 14:36
Yeah the Win10/XBONE compatibility is nice, but on PC the games'll probably gonna be those Win10 UWP apps that everyone hates, right? And it's not like you'll get a Steam key but instead you'll have to download it from the Windows Store, right? I don't actually know how this'll work, I'm just assuming it'll be done in the worst way imaginable. Otherwise it just sounds too good to be true.
Renzatic on 15/6/2016 at 15:54
I'd say that's exactly how it's going to be, Henke. While it won't be all that painful in practice, the long term result will be MS making the PC just another one of their consoles.
MS tends to be kinda tone deaf to the appeal of the PC over the consoles. It's not just that you can play games with MOAR graphics, it's that you can tweak and mod the everliving hell out of your games. UWP prevents that, which means that it'll never really catch on with the more hardcore PC crowd.
Renault on 15/6/2016 at 17:05
It's great though for games that would normally be XB1 exclusives (timed or otherwise), which will now be playable on PC (like the aforementioned State of Decay 2, or Rise of the Tomb Raider when it first came out, or Crackdown 3). Now if you have a PC and a PS4, there's nothing you can't play.

After the Sony conference video I want a PS4. They EASILY had the best conference of the lot. Even beat Bethesda's this time round. Shame no`one asked Todd Howard why Fallout 4 was the first in the series to not be a full RPG. Instead he was raving about how everyone loves it. Hmm. Fallout Shelter I played on my mobile until it started crashing all the damn time, so be good to try a PC version.
But GOD DAMN, some of those trailers in the Sony conference. Become Human looks fantastic, and the new Hideo Kojima game piques my interest. Honestly about 3/4 of the games shown look amazing. VR versions of games I don't really care about. Resident Evil becoming a FPS has already been done, so that was half half.
