Yes it is Cortex. I appreciate the domain name. The advantages of gmail, and an address thatt makes people go 'whaaaa?' I approve.

As per stated policy. . . . if you had a trioptimum.com E-mail account that you haven't logged into for at least six months, well. . . you don't anymore.

Just a sidenote: I think at least a few people will use this account as a forward and therfor won't log in for extended periods of time. I used my Triop address as my main account for a while but eventually switched to a normal googlemail-account because the integration with other Google services is buggy, eg with the text writing service and the Google notepad. Also the Google mail interface has been updated quite some time ago and Triop mail still uses the old interface.
I don't want to blame or complain, just saying how it is.

Went back and was re-reading your rules for the Triop email.
"Forever, as far as I can tell, as long as you're using the account. Accounts that aren't logged into for over 180 days, can and will be deleted without warning."
I'd say thats a pretty clear stance on inactive accounts.

Well, then they need to have logged in within the past 180 days, any time I run-up against the limit of accounts. BTW, POP3 & IMAP logins count here. It doesn't have to be a login into the web interface to show-up as having been logged into. It also needs to be said that *MOST* of the accounts that were deleted had *NEVER* been logged into, meaning there's no way they could have setup a forward.
BTW, Kolya, I'm don't really mean for this post to be directed at you, I'm just using the points you raised as talking points in a general response.
There was a time when there was some divergence between Google-Hosted Mail and Gmail, along with a handful of wonky issues, but those have been resolved, with one exception, I'll cover in a moment.
I just logged in with my normal Gmail account, and I don't see any difference between interfaces, save the logo in the corner.
The one feature I do run occasional wonky issues with is Trioptimum Gtalk, with a Jabber client. I've not figured out the exact details of it, but there's a problem with chat invites and authorization syncing between the web Gtalk interface and with pidgin (gaim's new name). I've not tried the official Windows Gtalk client. Anyone care to comment on that?
I've actually been toying with the idea of upgrading to the Premier Google-Hosted setup, if for no other reason, then to have access to a better management interface. The administrative features leave a lot to be desired. The user list is a bloody pain in the ass to navigate. On one hand, it's nice that I can crate users in bulk by uploading a .csv file (which is how I create the accounts requested here), but on the other hand, it's annoying that I can't include other info, like mailing list membership, which would be a hugely advantageous to us.
There's other annoyances like for users who have logged in, the user list displays when the last time they logged in was, but for users that hadn't logged in, there's no display of when the account was created, so for the purposes of pruning accounts, I had to search through request E-mails to determine account creation dates.
Given all these things I've mentioned, however, I don't know what management features the enhanced version offers, so all my criticisms may be for naught. I believe Google-Hosted offers a 30-day free trial of the enhanced features.
Yikes! Okay, I just looked into the premier services. . . $50/user/year! Not bloody likely! Sorry guys!

Pretty clear, yes, but to be fair, that first post is not etched in stone and that 180 day policy was actually added after the poll and initial discussion in this thread ran its course.
I've actually tweaked and modified that first post several times over the history of this offering. Most of the time it's just been to make things more clear in the interest of avoiding botched account requests.
It needs to be said though, that I enjoy offering this and think it's cool that a little over 100 people login to check their trioptimum.com E-mail almost every day.
I just wish there was more interest in the creation of content for the website. I think the domain is worthy of a far better site than the piddly crap I've got on there. I'm just not a web developer.
(I also enjoy being able to IRC from shodan.trioptimum.com! )

When I get a mo to think of a good name, I'll join up.
I am a web developer!
I'll have a look and see what I can do, no promises, works tough ATM
William Dojinn on 30/1/2008 at 15:12
I guess you could always use it as a repository to go in depth about thedifferent usermods, fan missions, ect. Then again that's already handled so I'm not sure what really uniqueness you could offer on the website side of things, but I've got a friend that might be willing to come up with a fake blog or something from Hacker or somesuch.

I was thinking you guys should set it up like a spoof Corporate website for Trioptimum. It's what one would expect it to be, anyway ... and there are traditional fansites now. (A blog is interesting, but you wouldn't expect it here, and if it doesn't get updated it will age sort of quickly.)
The name of a famous spoof corporate site that does this slips my mind just now, but you probably know the one I mean. Google isn't helping me find it.
It should look serious if you were just glancing at it, but if you read into the details it becomes more of a joke.
That would be good for Trioptimum, plenty of fodder for comedy the way it does business. And it's scifi, so it could be cool to see a corporate site for scifi services, interstellar shipping, futuristic products, etc... And just have passing glances to the games buried in the site, e.g., like AI-management services (newest AI more difficult to maliciously re-program), network security services (relatively low incidence of hacking), Biotech research ... You couldn't tell it was exactly from the games unless you already knew, and then you can catch the allusions.
It'd be a chance to make a really polished, professional looking site that's funny for fans on inspection, and it gives our emails even more cache if we can link to the mega-corporation we all work for. That could be fun.
William Dojinn on 30/1/2008 at 20:24
Indeed, though to be fair I think the concept of having a triop corperate website's generating interest in the circles I run in, with a few of these people as professional developers(though as always, swamped for time). I dunno if they can or will help, but I'll ask. Just give me something to work with as a design for them to follow, colors used, iconography, ect.
