Well, golly gee, the best thing that can be done with crooks, is pardon them, so the honest folk can move on with their lives.

He took office minutes after Nixon flew off into exile and declared ''our long national nightmare is over.'' But he revived the debate a month later by granting Nixon a pardon for all crimes he committed as president. That single act, it was widely believed, cost Ford election to a term of his own in 1976, but it won praise in later years as a courageous act that allowed the nation to move on.
Nothing 'courageous' about it-politicians always cover each others asses unless it suits their agenda to do otherwise.

Hey, I liked LA Style. How ironic that Brown's legend outlived them by more than a decade.
Peace. :(

I'll have to see if I can make it downtown for Ford's funeral.
Incidentally, while we're on the subject of Gerald Ford, I'm a little concerned by the spectacular airbrushing of history I've seen recently.
Amongst the widespread coverage of his death, I could only find a couple of oblique references to the fact that it was Ford who greenlit Indonesian dictator Suharto's invasion of East Timor, an invasion which rapidly (and predictably) became the genocide of a third of that country's population.
Ford directly responsible for the deaths of 200,000 innocent people, and it doesn't even warrant a mention in his obituaries? Frightening.
