Here's a project that's apparently been in the works for a few years now.

The dev is porting DX to Unreal Engine 5, and adding VR support. Current ETA is mid 2024. It'll be sold on Steam for 12 dollars.
From the dev's Patreon description:
Quote:
Bringing Deus Ex, a cult classic game into the future with Unreal Engine 5. I'm a seasoned game dev who's worked on AAA level games, I have a high level of adoration for Deus Ex. My passions lie in Game Dev and VR, so, why not bring them together?
The DXU24 project creates a translator for older Unreal Engine 1 games (with a focus on Deus Ex) that brings their visuals to Unreal Engine 5 at runtime, hence, enhancing the original with Unreal Engine 5's features.
And regarding the legality of selling such a thing, he had this to say:
Quote:
DXU24 does NOT ship with ANY assets or code from the games shown in the videos. It is a tool/utility/mod that REQUIRES you to have the original games installed for it to work.
It in NO WAY reverse engineers the original games but uses publicly available C++ modding SDKs for each title it supports (DX, UT99, Unreal Gold), it in no way violates the copy right law of the original IP holders nor Steams store policies against reverse engineering
Well, ok! This'll be interesting to watch.

Been following it for a while. It's good that he can sell it i think, at least we can hope that means the project can be taken pretty seriously and with updates + hopefully a Workshop with mods/assets to build upon it even further.
The original game has aged terribly graphically, unlike e.g SS2 which i still think kind of works in terms of how the levels looks (due to its setting).
