I remember "borrowing" some files from a UT installation that seemed to fix the problem quite nicely. It wasn't a huge deal, and was fixed fairly quickly after release. Knowing the basic technical issues involved, DX1 was a relatively simple fix. It remains to be seen whether DX2 will have a similar "magic bullet" patch.

An extra two months would have made a world of difference both on the product quality end and the poor business decision end. While I would have happily waited an additional few months so that DXIW could have been tweaked too perfection (I like the core design, sue me), it would also have meant releasing after the holiday season. For Eidos's intents and purposes it was more important to get it out the door early and were I an Eidos exec I'd probably make the same decision. It's just unfortunate that the game had to suffer because of it.
