DX:Goty stalling. - by tomi1kenobi

So, I whipped out the good ole Goty Deus Ex and run into something that has never happened before: occasionally the game freezes all of a sudden and I have to use ctrl+alt+del to quit. I usually managed to continue after rebooting the game/comp but now I'm completely stuck in Hell's kitchen, looking for Dowd. When trying to get out of the free clinic, there's the sound of aug being activated even though they're all off and after about a minute the game freezes totally no matter whether I stay put or move to another location. What the hell?
I think it could be a driver issue (Detonator 61.77). Can anyone confirm on this or give a pointer to what's going on?

Im not a tech wizz but there might be thousand of reasons for that. So it has worked well before and with same hardware?
As harsh as it is, format c: might help. :p

Aye, only thing that has changed are the drivers and I'd rather not change them to older ones. Formating wouldn't do any good since everything else runs A-OK. It could be something wrong with saving in general or with the last quicksave but I went and started from the previous hardsave (at roof of 'Ton) with same results so that's not probably not it. Looks like I've to bag DX for time being unless someone comes up with something. Oh well, that's life

Have you got the latest patch - 1112fm. Contrary to popular belief, GOTY only contains an earlier MP patch as standard.
tomi1kenobi on 29/11/2004 at 17:16
Yes,I got that too. Really weird. Tell you what: I'll do what I've should've done already = do a complete clean up with temp files, registry keys and such and isntall into a different location and then call back later. This could be important, not just for me but others as well if it really is driver/software issue. Better check it out all the way. OK?

..try to get past the problematic place using software mode..

Hmm, no dice. Uninstalled, cleaned the system, did fresh installs with and without 1112fm and started from the last hardsave again: the same baloney continues. This is not about resources, faulty drivers or such since I'm able to run Il-2 Sturmovik: Pacific Fighters no problemo and that one requires helluva lot more juice than DX. Heh, this getting a bit absurd. The CD looks allright as well, which leaves me absolutely clueless for the reason of the freezing  As I said before, it really looks like I've to bag DX for a time being and try again later with (hopefully) better luck and with my new harddrive (yay!) to be bought next week. Thanks a bunch for trying to help, guys! You're input has been noted :)

Im very sorry about that. If it has worked earlier and I absolutely would like to play it I would make backups of important stuff to other hard drive, clean the hard drive and install everything again. But again, It possibly couldn't help either.
BTW: Have you tried the game with your friends computer? Or have you tried of making a image of the game and cracking it? (just guessing)

Trying with previous saves would at least give a hint what's wrong or more like what's not but I seem to have lost the CD which has them. Trying it on friends box it pretty much out of question since everyone is busy reading for their exams and after that I won't be seeing them for awhile. Also, I won't have time to play much anything after a couple of weeks (work, work, work). I just started DX now to get away from the books myself  Probably the best thing to right now is to shellf the thing and try again later. I'm sure this isn't something terribly serious, probably a driver issue or whatnot, since everything else runs fine. Oh well, that at least gives an excuse to start DX again :thumb:
