Some of the relevant top brass at Square Enix really need to get a grip before DX3 ends up having more retail versions than Blade Runner has (

Square Enix has announced plans for a "very limited Collector's Edition" to launch alongside the regular, old, boring and utterly normal edition when it arrives this summer.
[...]"highly collectable" figure of protagonist Adam Jensen, the "Explosive Mission Pack" (which is also part of GameStop's pre-order incentive), a smattering of in-game weapons, 10,000 extra in-game credits, a "making of" DVD and soundtrack, and a 40-page art book. [...]
Seriously, this shit is getting stale. Let me break it down for you, (
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/11/30/deus-ex-inhuman-revolution/) here's what your retail lineup is looking like if you live in North America:
* Gamestop-specific "Regular" version, with one subset of in-game bonuses
* Other retailers' "Regular" version, with a different subset of in-game bonuses
* Augmented Edition, with all in-game bonuses, plus goodies (artbook, making-of, etc.)
Now, if you live in Europe (and Australasia, I believe), you get:
* Proper Regular version, with all in-game bonuses
* Augmented Edition, same as the US, all in-game bonuses and goodies
* The "Very Limited" Collector's Edition, which looks like the Augmented Edition plus an Adam Jensen action figure
At the end of the day, I don't really care except to point out it's getting quite silly. I suppose my bitterness isn't really for the new Super Duper Edition, more choice to better please customers and all that, but rather still for the tying of in-game bonuses (which I'll remind you includes an actual mission of potentially special interest to original DX fans) to specific retailers in the US. Yes,
I'm lucky enough not to be affected by it this time, but I can't help worry over what the future will bring in this department. As for the actual topic of thread, I just hope the introduction of this new Collector's edition doesn't give anyone any bright ideas to cut or alter the - and talk about oxymorons -
run-of-the-mill Collector's Edition, i.e. the Augmented Edition, since that's the one I genuinely want and have had it on preorder since it popped up on Amazon. And if they do, they can get fucked.
