It's the maintenance man. He knows we like Agent Orange.

The first thing I thought when I saw the first set of images was: "Wow, this reminds me of Ghost in the Shell. In particular the Arm Auto-Cannon." Visually, it's not overtly similar. It does seem to have a different "vibe", so to speak. Definitely dissimilar to OG Deus Ex, but not unappealing. Rene, would you care to share what is the basis for this new overall theme? I realize as a different team than the one that made the previous two games, you are trying to give it your own flair, but as mentioned before, everything does seem a little too advanced in comparison to the Original. The industrial look is a touch off-putting, but also quite nice and not necessarily irreconcilable with the OG style. The only thing that gets to me is how advanced the Mech-Augs were back then. Poor Gunther. Figures the government would short change him and make him into "a golem to scare the little children". Without a Skul-Gun, no less. What a shame. :D

Don't worry - those screenshots are from just one building/lab/environment. There are plenty of scummy and poorly lit areas to explore. :)

Hopefully one o' them is gonna be included in the next wave of promo screenies.:D

Poorly lit? Does it mean hide in shadows is back?

Yes, René mentioned it on the official boards. Line of sight stealth is still the main way to go but shadow stealth will be present to some extent too. :)

Late 2009 - early 2010. Nothing more specific yet.

Closer examination of the DX code reveals that actually, while shadow stealth is definitely a feature, once you've been sighted, enemies ignore the shadows check completely until you stick some actual geometry between you and them (i.e. L.O.S. stealth). They'll merrily chase you through total darkness firing off shots without trouble, but the instant a wall gets in the way it's all "Where did he go?", and then once they've calmed down shadows start being effective again.
Out of curiosity I turned the "shadowstealth while sighted" stuff back on, and my god does it make DX hilariously easy.
But hey: that was in 2000, so AI has to be better than that by now, right?

This is exactly how Thief handles alerted AIs as well.
