Someone suggested they might be going for a cel-shaded look. At first I didn't believe those were actual screenshots either, but René has confirmed them. And hey, since you reminded me of that thread,
let me go cook something up brb Back, from concept to implementation:
Inline Image:
http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb67/Ostriig/progress.jpgYou know, I guess I'm too stuck in my old ways, but I look at these screenshots and, as much as I like them, I keep thinking "how the hell am I gonna sneak around in all that light?" I'm gonna miss shadow stealth. But anyway, a tease was long overdue, and this is proving a tasty little morsel. I wonder how long 'till we get a look at characters and how they animate.
Edit: Hm... I'm starting to think we may have previously seen quite a few more screenshots than we'd thought... we just mistook them for concept art.

Nah, look at the lighting in the concept art vs the screenshot. There's a difference. I have to say Eidos Montreal have some ridiculously awesome 3-D and texture artists though, if they can get that close to the concept sketches.

Oh, I didn't mean the mixed image I posted above. But rather stuff like (

http://www.shrani.si/?3v/14/3rZ0OpMU/1/techlab.jpg) this, which I'd originally thought were concepts, with maybe some shoddy 3d assets thrown in the mix. Now, however, the polygonal profile of the chair in the former would make sense if it were an actual screenshot, and the second image is obviously just a different angle on an area that's been confirmed.
So, yeah, it is pretty impressive.

If this is dumbed down for consoles....

Do we really need to say that in every single DX3 thread, even the graphics ones?

No. The
if of the matter is unnecessary & should be chnaged to
when.
(still pissed about U9!)

AHahaha no.
(I imported the U9 Dragon Edition from the USA - boy, was that the best money I ever spent or what?)

Yep, those are both in-game! In terms of the lighting and shadows, those screenshots are from a much older build and things have already changed in terms of the tech. The team is making a lot of changes to the TRU engine and the style is being refined all the time. But those are good start, and I can't wait for people to see outdoor areas. :D
