I got DX in the mail about a week ago, finally! (It was mailed like 7 weeks ago to my old command and then forwarded, it took forever to get to the damn ship!) Right after work I went straight to install and watched the intro movie. It went way too fast, I mean... they seemed to talk normal but the words would always be cut off. I'd have to read the subtitled text to get the whole thing. The NPCs were moving super fast, but I shrugged and entered the actual game, skipping training just to see how it looked. Birds fleew like jets, and this dude literally ran up to me and talked super friggin zippy fast, then when all that was done and I selected some kind if sniper deal I tried to walk forward, but DARTED ahead. Why is everything so damn fast??
WinXP
512 megs ram
Mobility Radeon 9000 64mb video card
1.8GHZ processor
What's going on here? Yes, I did search.

Hmm, a bit late to respond to this perhaps but the likely cause is that you are playing on a laptop. Due to the way some laptop processors handle memory/cpu usage (in a sense overclocking the chip) it can mess up the speed/engine timing of certain games. For example I have seen both Deus Ex and Hitman 2 behave in super-speed mode as you describe, but only on certain models of notebook computers.
You could try: opening up lots of background applications...fire up MS Word, Excel and any other non-threatening, memory hogging programs, that **might** slow it down a bit. Also run Deus Ex at the very highest resolution/color bit depth that you can.
There may be settings somewhere in Windows or any proprietary laptop software (e.g. 'Dell Inspiron Configuration' or some such) that your system may have come with where you could tell the system not to run at full speed, but beyond those two ideas, sorry...not much I can think for you to do.

I had the same problem. You have to enable the cheats by pressing "T", then deleting "Say" and typing "set jcdentonmale bcheatsenabled true" instead.
then, press "T" again, delete "Say" and type "slomo 0.5". If it doesn't run slow/fast enough, adapt to any number between 0 and 1. (My DX runs fine at slomo.45, for example)
:)
The cheat may be deactivated in the middle of a level. If hat happens, retype the slomo command. You don't need to enter the "set jc..." again.

Try CPU Grabber. If it works with old games, it will work with DX :)

On my laptop I just cranked up the quality (ie FSAA 8x) which made the game look much better and run at normal speed
